2023 Miami Dolphins Training Camp Thread

OTA’s officially start on Monday and the media will be there Tuesday. They won’t report on who is playing where but we’ll get some interesting stuff like Williams playing center last year.

Welp we already got our first little bit of leaked news. Can Wolfe just tweeted out that he expects to see AVG play a bit of Inside LB. The media can’t confirm specific details of where players are playing from actual practice, but it sounds like Fangio is trying something new.

Personally don’t know how I feel about AVG playing inside. I feel like his worst moments came in 2021 when they had him playing in coverage more. I also hate that this continues to bury Tindall on the depth chart but that pick might already be dead.

if you can mix AVG on the inside throughout a game just to give the optics of an inside blitz by him, then you're making the offense play into your hands.

That seems to be exactly what’s happening because McDaniel basically confirmed that today. They needed a vet to add to the rotation and they think AVG can do well. Getting him on the field allows you to be a bit more versatile and if he can comfortably play in space then you’ve got a great chess piece.

Here’s some of the highlights from practice today.

McDaniel gives and update on Brandon Jones and Nik Needham:

    - Both players are in the building working “diligently” and the Dolphins feel good about where both players are at

    - There is no official (read: public) timetable for either player’s return

“This is the offseason. There is a lot of power for players, particularly when you are learning a new system, so being able to have versatility is powerful,” McDaniel addressing whether Trill Williams has been moved to safety. “Cross training stuff will always be a part.”

Mike McDaniel says Isaiah Wynn is getting work at several spots on the O-line and will have opportunities to get playing time at those spots.

Coach says his self-scouting this offseason was focused not on the things necessarily they did well, but the things he thinks they can do better.

Identifying critical things in our game -- pre-snap penalties was an easy one, we were last in that. Lot of ways to improve there.

Tyreek Hill, Terron Armstead, Zach Sieler, Connor Williams not spotted at Miami Dolphins voluntary open organized activity practice 1 on Tuesday.

Among the players who made nice plays at Dolphins open OTA 1: Erik Ezukanma, De’Von Achane, Cedrick Wilson.

Sounds like the DLine is ahead of the offense right now. Pass rush won a lot today, although Omar noted that even with some backups the Oline opened up some running lanes(it’s OTAs with no pads I don’t care.)

Jevon Holland intercepted Mike White at Miami Dolphins open OTA 1 on Tuesday.

Literally every reporter spoke about Achane. Apparently had some big runs, caught a nice deep ball from Tua, and the speed was noticeable.

Jeff Wilson was asked about Achane’s speed:

    “That boy can GO!”

Christian Wilkins said he’s letting his agent handle his contract talks. Added that it won’t impact his motivation whether or not he has a new deal by the start of the season,

“I’m always motivated… no dollar changes my mindset”

Austin Jackson recovered from reconstructive ankle surgery and is participating.

Tua was wearing the Vicis Zero2 Matrix helmet, which was apparently created to prevent QB concussions. I'd still tape a big ol' pillow to the back of it if the martial arts didn't teach him to tuck his chin instinctively when falling backwards. Hopefully it helps though.

It was announced that Miami will also be doing joint practices with Houston this year before the 2nd preseason game.

Dolphins OL Liam Eichenberg noted he’s been taking snaps at center in Dolphins OTAs. More on him trying that out but still looking to win the LG spot coming later.

Some practice observations from Wednesday's just-concluded OTA session added here below, including Tua's big deep ball to Robbie Chosen, another impressive ball from Skylar Thompson, flashes from Jeff Wilson, Achane and various defenders. Noah Igbinoghene INT.

FB Alec Ingold wore the orange jersey at Miami’s Wednesday OTA session.

Archane shouldn't be a surprise in non-contact. It'll be interesting to see how he does in the pre-season games.

I think Anderson is an underrated, underappreciated signing by this team. Dude still has the speed and ability he showed with NYJ . . . he just has had garbage QBs throwing to him. If one of Hill or Waddle get hurt an need to miss a game or something, Anderson can step in as an emergency WR2 easily imo.

As for Achane, i'm waiting for the pads to come on (well, along with everybody else lol)
