Whatever deals we make were going to need bullpen help for sure. We knew the pen was going to be a bit shaky all along, but it's been scraping by. I know for a while there we have the best bullpen era in the league, but that felt a bit fluky. There's definitely a need for a back end reliever for sure to compliment Williams.
Sadly, as deep as we are in the OF to start the year, there's a real argument we might need some OF help too. Mitchell is done for the year it seems. Frelick is out until June or maybe even July. I don't know how aggressive they want to be with Chourio, but a mid summer callup feels super aggressive. If Taylor and/or Perkins struggle, we may need some OF help. Weimer has been pretty rough at the plate as well but has defended really well in center.
When Urias eventually gets back, they may try to get away with Anderson in the OF more to get Urias at bats. That's probably fine, but I could see them trying for a somewhat cheap rental at OF this deadline too potentially. Maybe they try to find one off the DFA scrap heap first. With Mitchell being out for the year or at least until late in the year, we can move him to the 60 day IL and free up a roster spot to take a chance on a guy.
Maybe hiura will actually have a tiny bit of value at the deadline. He's basically turned himself into the GOAT AAA player throughout the years but can't hit in the bigs. I was never a huge, huge hiura guy, but when he was DFA'd I was surprised a team that wasn't expecting to compete didn't take a chance on him. I could see at the deadline a minor move where we ship hiura out to a team out of it for a reliever who is in an expiring deal or who has only a year left. No one crazy good but this team needs bullpen depth, so we'll take anyone decent.
The Brewers really have a good eye for pen arms too. Payamps, Wilson, Peguero have all been very good. Disliked the Matt Bush move at the time and didn't understand handing him the setup job when he hasn't shown much with the Brewers.
I want the Brewers to acquire Grichuk or Profar (preferably Grichuk) maybe in a early June move. Like you said crewfan the OF has been pretty rough overall with the bats. Miller/Anderson have earned regular ABs and one will play the OF. Interested who goes down when Urias comes back...Will it be one of the young guys Turang or Wiemer as Taylor can play CF?
I think Taylor could be DFA'd for all I care. He 29 and just very average at best. Don't mind weimer being sent down to see if he can regain some confidence, but if they keep him up, I have no worry if we lose Taylor.
It's been a weird year as a whole. This team isn't very good. We've had a ton of injuries. But the division is awful and we can easily win it. So I doubt they make any sell moves. But I really don't want to make any big moves either. Our farm has steadily improved, but I don't really want to dip into that to improve a team that just isn't very good.
Like even guys like Owen Miller, who has been awesome, has a lot of concerns. Looking at his baseball savant page, he's well below average and even closer to poor in the vast majority of offensive things. He's great at not striking out, now whiffing and had great sprint speed. But his hard hit, exit velocity, barrel rates and things like that haven't been good. So odds are he's going to regress hard soon.

While his team overall hasn't gotten much from young guys they need more from their players who were expected to produce. Adames before IL stint is hitting .204. Winker has stunk (I think surgeries may have zapped him), Contreras hopefully can start to get into his power. This team needs to play vs. LHP. Brosseau, Voit (now DFA) weren't the answers and I want one of your best players to get ABs. Like I said I would dig a move where it isn't going to cost a big prospect for Grichuk or Profar who are FAs after the year.
I wanted Renfroe to stay and Drury in the offseason as two additions and both have been pretty dang good this year, .250, about .800 OPS which is top-2 on the Brewers lol
Agreed on Miller. He has been great but he's going to crater soon.
