OPENING DAY SF Giants @ NY Yankees March 30 - April 2

    C-SPuV9byi1q5n2P_768x432.jpg
The 2023 MLB season kicks off with an Opening Day matchup between the New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants at Yankee Stadium. This game will be a homecoming of sorts for the Giants, who played in New York through 1957 before relocating to San Francisco.

Both teams will send their aces to the mound with Logan Webb taking the hill for the Giants and Gerrit Cole getting the call for the Yankees. Runs figure to be at a premium in this game, so which team will come out on top?

What are peoples' predicted lineups for tomorrow?

    It's a tricky one. I could see 2

    DJ 3B
    Judge RF
    Rizzo 1B
    Stanton DH
    Torres 2B
    Hicks CF
    Volpe SS
    Cabrera LF
    Trevino C

However the lineup that I fear will be out there will be

    DJ DH
    Judge CF
    Rizzo 1B
    Stanton RF
    Torres 2B
    Hicks LF
    JD 3B
    Volpe SS
    Trevino C

If this FO is true to its word?

    DJ. DH
    Judge CF
    Rizzo 1B
    Stanton RF
    Torres 2B
    Cabrera LF
    JD 3B
    Volpe SS
    Trevino C

Bottom line is Cabrera should be starting. To me, if you want the lefty bats, you ned to play DJ at third.

If they do start Hicks over Cabrera, I hope he gets boo'd

Clown I agree completely Cabrera earned the start. However His PT in CF is rather limited, I see him starting in LF, Judge in RF. Imo you want to keep Judge out of CF, to save his legs/knees. Probably, much to the chagrin of many, Hicks in CF. He has the most experience at the Stadium. Lot's of ground to cover. Would they play Florial for D alone? Maybe late in the game.

I'm going with the first one.

I predict Volpe will hit 9th to start the season to reduce pressure and create a second leadoff hitter in front of Judge.

So flip Volpe with Trevino in any of your lineups.

    How about :

    Anthony Volpe, SS
    Aaron Judge, RF
    Anthony Rizzo, 1B
    Giancarlo Stanton, DH
    Gleyber Torres, 2B
    Josh Donaldson, 3B
    Oswaldo Cabrera, LF
    Jose Trevino, C
    Aaron Hicks, CF

    Makes perfect sense.

    You both make perfect sense.
I agree with Johnny that they may bat him low to reduce expectation
I agree with you they may bat him 1rst because if he performs, it will be electric.

My guess is they want him out their as the first AB of the year.

My lineup less about a specific order and more about positions, who's in and who's out.

The smartest lineup they could make regarding fan reception would be with both Volpe and Cabrera in it.

Boone was on Talking Yanks a few days ago and said that DJ would be leading off and that they planned on batting Volpe 9th.

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

I know, I heard. I'm just suggesting it as a plausible spot at some point in time. I think he would make a perfect lead off hitter, good contact and speed. DJ is also exceptional bat at the top. Excellent bat control, high contact hitter. I agree with Johnny, at this juncture makes sense to play him in the 9 hole for multiple reasons already stated.

I was just going based on kinks question about opening day line up.

We all know there will be about 60-90 different line ups with this organization. So I would imagine so.

You are right. I reread it. My bad, I overlooked the "predicted lineups for tomorrow" in clown's original post. I thought he/we were discussing "lineups" in more general terms for the season. Johnny's comment brought it into focus.

I just read we signed Frenchy Cordero (OF-1B)
He's a lefty and hit .409 with the O's this spring (yes I know it's spring)
Wonder what that does with Flo?

Well..... He has a -0.6 career WAR and a career slash: .221/.290/.386/.670. Maybe AAA fodder?

Jeff Passan is reporting that the club has signed Franchy Cordero to a split deal, one that will pay him $1 million if he sticks to the major league roster and $180,000 should he be moved to the Triple-A squad. Passan further confirms that Cordero will be on the Opening Day roster tomorrow.
