I think the only way Peraza ends up with the job is if they just think he's a better SS or if he has a very good, last 5 games.
Or if Volpe implodes. That doesn't seem to be in his make-up

Well, Peraza is at SS in today’s lineup is the other game.
Volpe plays with the starters today which kind of tells you how the FO and Boone are thinking…

Hal just needs to just do what the Rays did with Franco and give Volpe a 13 yr deal NOW and save some money down the road.

The only way we get both on the team is if Torres is traded. I also feel deep down Cashman had predetermined Volpe as his SS anyway and just wanted to see how he reacted with spring competition. Volpe came through with flying colors.

IKF knows he is screwed either way. And I don’t want Volpe, Cabrera, Peraza, DJ and Torres all there too as that would mean one of the specs would lost at bats and start to get stale on the pine. Nicky, you think this is Volpe vs Peraza thing for me, it's not. Volpe will be a good SS, but as I've said for a long time if they are both on the field Peraza should be the SS. Cole says Peraza is on par with Correa when they were in Houston together, that version of Correa might be the best defensive SS in the last 10-15yrs.

If Peraza isn't your SS, fine, trade him because he has zero value to this team in AAA

There is no way Volpe doesn't make it at this point. He's been too good this spring.

Would you guys consider extending Cabrera soon? Switch hitter with a good bat, even better from the LH side. His offensive game is tailor-made for YS. Defensively, he's more than passable at every position and elite at 4-5.

I'd consider giving him something 8yr90m

I will say, I find it telling that Volpe seems to play in all the televised games.

That’s the team I’d be most excited to watch. Judge in CF, Cabrera in RF and one of the tryout vets in LF with Hicks until Bader gets back.

Deep down, here’s what I really want our 2025 opening day lineup to be:

Bench: Jose Trevino, DJ LaMehiu, Harrison Bader, Oswaldo Cabrera

Re-sign Trevino and Bader to starter level deals as insurance but hope the kids take the spots. This gives you unbelievable depth if the kids pan out.

Moving Torres now for pitching prospects. Spend money on pitching. That gives you pitching depth to make any trades needed for position players if the above doesn’t pan out.

I’m on board with signing O-Cab earlier than later. This dude can flat out play.
