It comes down to 2 players reall, Torres and Peraza. Which one if a key to the next championship team? If the answer Torres, you decide he''s a better championship talent fine.

Torres and Volpe up the middle is still very good, but for **** sake, no best version has either on the kids in AAA. They have to make a decision soon

Has it been preordained? How does one determine a prospect is "destined" to play SS? We already have 3 shortstops on the roster, four if you count Torres. Why is it vitally important that Volpe start the season on the team? If they bring him up in late april they automatically get an extra year of service time, which is incredibly important if Volpe is the real deal.

I think the only way Peraza ends up with the job is if they just think he's a better SS or if he has a very good, last 5 games.
Or if Volpe implodes. That doesn't seem to be in his make-up

    He's built for Anaheim stadium.

I don't know that's the case, but you would hope. Then again this is Cashman were talking about. they told volpe if he had a good spring he would make the team, be belongs on this roster

If they go with Volpe day 1 at SS he won't give that job back for a long time, IMO which is fine he's a very good player.

Peraza still has the case he's done it already in real games.. Peraza is Correa good defensively and as we saw last yr he can hit pretty well. Peraza is an elite, elite defender at SS. If you don't play him there you aren't getting max value for him,

Volpe bat and toolset profile the same at 2nd,3rd, and SS, Peraza's value goes way down at any other position

If you aren't going to use Peraza you need to trade him for something else we need. If Peraza isn't the starter that fine, but don't let the talent waste away in AAA. Corbin Burns is in the last yr of his deal and he is going to be treated at some point. For 1yr A Peraza package could make a lot of sense. So would Torres plus

The best version of this team has both Vikoe and Peraza on it, We have e excess value at those position and they need to use all of it to make us better this yr and beyond
I wouldn’t be too disappointed just yet Day. I believe Peraza is wanted on this team with regards to Cashman. But again he may just want him for a future trade piece.

The only way we get both on the team is if Torres is traded. I also feel deep down Cashman had predetermined Volpe as his SS anyway and just wanted to see how he reacted with spring competition. Volpe came through with flying colors.

IKF knows he is screwed either way. And I don’t want Volpe, Cabrera, Peraza, DJ and Torres all there too as that would mean one of the specs would lost at bats and start to get stale on the pine. Volpe and Peraza all need to be starting. Hopefully Cash can somehow trade Torres this weekend because Torres is the key with Volpe and Peraza both on the 26 man roster.

Quit the extra year service BS. These are the Yankees! The Rays only worry about that stuff. The Yankees have a huge wallet of cash to counteract the service time crap so that is no worry to them. Volpe was the Yankees #1 prospect so he already had the edge over Peraza anyway. I kept on saying he is what they want at SS. He has the look. He has then”it” factor. Jeter started out at SS in 1996 and he got a huge break when Tony Fernandez broke his leg otherwise Jeter doesn’t start until 1997 IMO. I think Volpe in MARCH 2023 is better than Jeter in MARCH 1996. We know how Jeter started and ended. Can Volpe be like Jeter?

Again, we were told it was a competition for SS. It appears at this juncture Volpe has won. IF so he needs to be on the roster. A prospect is destined based on the so called competition for the spot.

Thanks I did, hope you did as well.

A little tidbit. When I was VERY young my parents would take me to the big parade on 5th ave. My mother told me it was in celebration of my B day. Every restaurant was packed and also celebrating my B day!
