The thing that makes the most sense, is to see what we have with Peraza. Give him the SS spot outright. If he looks like he’s legit, then all you need to figure out is what you’re doing with Torres. IMO you go with the better defender at SS, assuming he at least is respectable offensively
Why can’t you give Volpe the SS job outright? He has certainly deserved it more IMHO.

The lineup needs a shot of energy and Volpe is the one who can provide that. He already has good pitch selection and when on base he is a disruption towards the pitcher and catcher. Some act like Volpe is a crummy SS. Again, the lineup needs new exciting blood! I’ll take the offense ANY DAY!

So you would take Ozzie Smith for 10 years or Derek Jeter for 10 years at SS?

I think Peraza would hit better than Ozzie Smith but you might get more out of Volpe with overall. I think he would help win more games playing SS than Peraza IMO.

But i want both in there so i’d take Peraza at SS and Volpe at 2b.

i also don’t want one of them sitting and not getting opportunity either. So if they decide to go with Peraza at SS then i hope they send Volpe to AAA because JD, Torres and DJ are not going anywhere!

This kid was on pace for a 5war season over a full season last yr. I won't be surprised if he puts up those kinda numbers again. That is an incredibly valuable player for us.

I know everything is Volpe vs Peraza but Cabrera is looking like he's going to be a huge piece of this team this yr
I don’t think he will be like a Bernie Williams. I think he will be a great bench player and obviously a good player to have in case of injury. I just think over 500 at bats he would be exposed a little with the bat. He is no doubt a shot of energy but he should only play 3 or 4 games a week.

If the future up the middle is Volpe and Peraza as Hal has said many times, then they need to do that to start the season. Peraza hit /330 for 3 months in triple A and has absolutely zero left to prove in AAA. He hit 306 and played great defense when he was called up. Very similar sample size, he's a notoriously slow starter in spring.

If there is a real competition at SS, Volpe has won no question. You told this kid if he played well enough he could make the team. At this point he has Judge and Rizzo pushing for him, you can't send him down. He's everything you can ask for from a prospect. If Peraza wasn't on the team I would be pushing for Volpe at SS.

If you don't use them the best way, move him for something we need. Burnes is in his walk yr and isn't resigning with the Brewers after that arbitration disaster. For 1yr of Burnes , Peraza plus isn't a bad return. Then they are clear to resign Torres for 8yr200m

Cashman is betting his legacy on this group of prospects and they are already messing with one of the better ones were going to see.
Day, they would trade Torres before Peraza. i’d trade Torres and put Volpe at 2b with Peraza at SS. Then you have DJ and Cabrera for utility. I guess IKF stays too? Or go with extra pitching?

When is the big meeting to decide all of this?

Is it tomorrow or next week?

Thur is Game 1 so they need to get down to business.

Initially, according to Yankees PR it was today or tomorrow.

I’m not debating the bat vs bat aspect. But I think Peraza will hit at an acceptable level, at worst. And as I see it that way, I see zero reasons to move him off short.

That’s why I say start him right away. Give him some time, see how it develops. Also gives a good look at Cabrera. Both of them handle business, makes it an easy decision on Torres. Then its Volpe time
Volpe would get more money in the future as a SS.

Yankees would want Volpe at SS for the business side IMO. Peraza is t going to command a 10/300 contract. I’m not Volpe will either but i feel he is the one who picks up the C when Judge retires.

How about having both. In which case, the better fielder plays SS

That’s what I actually want. So, I’d let Peraza have a crack at it, and then if that’s settled, then Volpe takes 2nd

If they are holding those spots down, then you spend big on the corners.

Even I have to admit, peraza hasn't looked great at the plate the last couple weeks. I don't think you send him down and I thin he can turn it around but Volpe and Cabrera have been so good, it's made him look worse by comparison
Hicks will get the job. But Cabrera will play a lot.

I don't know that's the case, but you would hope. Then again this is Cashman were talking about. they told volpe if he had a good spring he would make the team, be belongs on this roster

If they go with Volpe day 1 at SS he won't give that job back for a long time, IMO which is fine he's a very good player.

Peraza still has the case he's done it already in real games.. Peraza is Correa good defensively and as we saw last yr he can hit pretty well. Peraza is an elite, elite defender at SS. If you don't play him there you aren't getting max value for him,

Volpe bat and toolset profile the same at 2nd,3rd, and SS, Peraza's value goes way down at any other position

If you aren't going to use Peraza you need to trade him for something else we need. If Peraza isn't the starter that fine, but don't let the talent waste away in AAA. Corbin Burns is in the last yr of his deal and he is going to be treated at some point. For 1yr A Peraza package could make a lot of sense. So would Torres plus

The best version of this team has both Vikoe and Peraza on it, We have e excess value at those position and they need to use all of it to make us better this yr and beyond
