I think I read somewhere where the NBA did the numbers and not the team’s guys. But if not, this has been happening since the John Stockton days at least.

Supposedly but there's some major inconsistencies when you look at quite a few players for home/away. The reddit thread has some serious digging through Jokic, Giannis, and a ton of top guys that won MVP's or other awards.

It's not uncommon but what's shocking here is how bad it was. This is more than two standard deviations outside of what's expected. I doubt anything will be done.

Right at the moment, most books have blocked any DPOY bets and the ones that haven't pulled him off. Interesting that the first place that had JJJ with the best odds was the Grizz jersey promotion partner.

Certainly true. I remember years ago someone going through multiple games analyzing assists given to a player who was trying to lead the league in that category. What they found was that if the player touched the ball last before another player scored, regardless of what happened in between, the assist stat was awarded rather than recording it as an unassisted bucket.

    Certainly not unheard of.

I don’t think stats really matter anymore then. Certainly points per game but everything else is meh, Just another thing ****ed up since I started watching sports 40 years ago. Stats and stats longevity were what got me into it

You know it’s serious when the books get involved like this. Leagues can hoodwink us but nobody is hoodwinking Vegas.

Yea. Vegas pulling DPOY from their boards is not a good sign.

Russ got an MVP because of stats, and with the current CBA awards mean money.

And I really dislike that. Money ruins everything.

I've always wondered how an assist is exactly awarded, like it is it a time element or so many dribbles taken before a player goes into a shooting motion... I guess now I know it's whatever the game scorer feels like. I guess rebounds could be messed with a little, like when a player tips the ball to another player, the scorer could award it to whichever player they want.

Tennis put robots in charge, baseball is going that way, there have been some proposals on some football officiating, but basketball pretty much nothing automated is coming.

For this case I think the NBA should just have independent stat keepers at every game.

I remember the Stockton claim forever ago. He had like 540 more assists at home, with 1600 games played. Not that crazy...

If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

Yeah, it makes sense for home numbers to be better in a lot of cases since the deeper bench players tend to play better at home ... better, but not insane.
