The Vikings converted Kirk Cousins roster bonus so that cleared up 16 million. That makes us cap compliant but the signings of Oliver/Davenport/Bradbury put us back over. So more moves are on the way.

$13M for a pass rusher who had 0.5 sacks last year? Um.

Ignore the sack numbers, he can generate pressure. He's a step down from Hunter/Smith but he's got a boat load of potential. Combing sacks, hits, and hurries Hunter had 78 and Smith had 70. Hunter 570 pass rush reps and Smith 495. Davenport had 34 combined but only on 282 reps. Extrapolate that across 450 snaps and that's a combined 54. That would put Davenport in the top 25 in the league. There is potential for more too.

The guy is a pretty damn good athlete for his size too:

Apparently he was the #1 edge rusher available and multiple teams were interested

And of course his only half sack was against the Vikings lol He also had part of his pinky finger removed last year. It's been injured since college and he's had multiple surgeries on it. Apparently he decided enough was enough and had half of it removed lol

So I read that Cousins "moving money" will put 28.5 million cap hit next year. If this is true not a fan of this move at all!! We will be paying him when he is in another uni. Not sure about this GM yet and def not a fan of this moving money unless we get a ring!!

I believe it depends if he's given an another extension or not. If he leaves as a FA then we're hit with the full 28.5 next year. He has void years in 24', 25', 26', and 27'. Those numbers are 10.25, 10.25, 4, and 4 million each. So if he's under contract any of those years you basically just add those dead numbers on top of what he is already making. So if it's 35 million in 2024 then it's basically 45.25 total. I could be wrong, though.

So at the moment our defense looks like this:

    Edge: Danielle Hunter
    DE: James Lynch/Esezi Otomewo
    DT: Khyiris Tonga
    DE: Harrison Phillips
    EDGE: Marcus Davenport
    LB: Jordan Hicks
    LB: Brian Asamoah
    CB: Byron Murphy
    CB: Akayleb Evans/Andrew Booth
    Nickel: ?
    S: Harrison Smith
    S: Lewis Cine/Cam Bynum

Still need to find a nickel corner and add some pass rushing juice. Our depth up front is still just as bad as it was last year.

Makes me less of a fan of the "move money" move. Makes me think they would be more likely to resign Cousins then and it sounds like it would be too much money that he would get. Oh boy!!

So that's correct, however, if we get rid of Dalvin Cook and Zadarius Smith, the Vikings will be sitting with the 3rd most cap space in the entire NFL next year. Even with all that dead money from Kirk. This is the definition of a "competitive rebuild" that KOC talked about last offseason. Unfortunately, the past regime left this new one with lots of pretty bad expensive contracts of old aging regressing players. They kind of needed to pick and choose which players to just eat for this season like Thielen and Kendricks, and in order to not go 3-13 next year they also needed to create a little cap by kicking the can down the road a little, which is what they did with Kirk.
