What team does Lamar Jackson play for next year?

Similar to the Antonio Brown list, we're got...

    • Picked up a "Pay Lamar" sign on national TV for the camera
    • Commenting on random twitter threads about his contract
    • Arguing with random fans on twitter who say he isn't worth fully guaranteed
    • 2 years running "minor" season ending injury as soon as the offense starts struggling
    • Didn't disclose nature of current injury before claiming PCL Sprain 3, which would have been an IR injury. Cost a roster spot.
    • Teammates publicly question if contract is why he isn't playing
    • Journalists checked with his rehab facility and found he hasn't attended
    • Doesn't travel for playoff game despite traveling for previous games while injured

This all comes on top of the rejecting a $250M+ contract that exceeded Russ and Kyler deals and demanding fully guaranteed. The Ravens cashflow is such that it is probably difficult for them to actually afford the fully guaranteed.

And then this weekend his team barely loses to the defending AFC Champ with a backup QB who defied the coach, resulting in a 7 pt goal line fumble. In other words... with an average or below average starter grade QB, the Ravens beat the Bengals and move on.

All this adds up to Lamar being tagged-and-traded or just his rights being traded away, IMO. Which team is willing to pay fully guaranteed for the injury risk?

Patriots have a ton of cap space. I’d make a run at him. We lack any sort of significant individual threat in the passing game which makes us easy to scheme for from a coverage standpoint. Jackson would bring the added element of a run threat which just by itself is a game plan challenge for the defense. Maybe Jackson isn’t the in the conversation for absolute best pure throwers of the football at the QB spot but that’s overstated. He’s still great. Certainly a huge improvement over Mac. And while NE lacks a talent like Mark Andrews they have a pretty deep group of pass catches provided they bring Jakobi Meyers back.

Agree on the throwing side of things. It's hard to judge him too harshly as a passer when theyve done very little to assist him as a passer. Bateman is the only real asset they've brought in the last few years and he hasn't been able to stay healthy. But beyond that, he's worked with Andrews and consistently one of the lower end WR rooms. Hollywood is a fine wr but he's not exactly a stud either and he was traded. Plus the offense is (rightfully so) catered to his specific play style that doesnt use a ton of quick passing. Whether that's right or wrong can be debated for sure, but I just think it's hard to judge him on that stuff the way they've played. Hes always going to use his legs because that's a huge portion of his game, but would love to see him in an offense that tries to use him as a passer a bit more and gives him some different tools to work with.

Imagine Lamar in Miami with Waddle and Hill. Scary

Yeah, maybe. I figured it was better than some of the other stuff we get on here that isn't direct news. After stuff like calling the Zach Wilson issues weeks beforehand, hoping for some other ones that seem like stretches now (to some) but turn out to be correct.

I've thought all year that it was Lamar's last year in Baltimore and seems like each thing keeps moving closer and closer.

I think the Jets would most urgently "want" Lamar. After hitting on last year's draft they would feel like they can sell their future draft picks to land a QB. They got a good WR, a good RB, a great CB, great pass rush, etc. They can feel good about their roster youth and say they're entering a win-now window that should last 5 years to justify Lamar.

Miami is mostly the same way, but they sold draft capital to get Tyreek and probably can't afford Lamar.

Raiders have their own self-made crisis to handle with QB and WR1 and I could see them being in play for Lamar, but it needs a lot of things to go right to work out.

Most of the other QB-needy teams aren't really win-now rosters. Unless like Denver could swing sending Russ to the Ravens? But why would the Ravens do that? Broncos sold their picks to get Russ.

Seattle and Geno seem happy, but they're probably the other team that could actually say "we need a QB and are ready to win now" and have the Broncos picks. I just don't think they will.

Giants and Commanders have potential intrigue at making a big move... as do the Vikings.

I'm not the biggest Lamar fan, but I'd trade 2 1sts for him. He's good, even if he's a bit overrated (aside from right now where people are way underrating him).

I can't fault a guy for wanting market value for his first big contract. Like it or not, Massage Boi reset the market expectations for QBs and Lamar is probably the first rookie deal MVP who's even had to play out year 5, probably the first to have to play out year 4. The Ravens have reaped the benefits of a cheap franchise QB, I have no qualms if he says **** 'em and chases money.

If I’m not mistaken Lamar will be 100% free this off season. Any team that wants him shouldn’t have to give up picks for him.

I would love for that to happen, but there's a 0% chance the Ravens don't tag him

Jets should go balls deep and they'll instantly become SB faves.
