After looking at stats, I agree that Will Clark deserves a longer look.

When I saw Will Clark play, I never thought of him as a Hall of Famer, as he didn't have eye-popping numbers. He only led his league in RBI (once), Runs Scored (once) PA & ABs (once each), Slugging (once) and Total Bases (once).
He was a very solid ballplayer who was much better than average defensively and could run the bases well.

McGriff lead the league twice in homers, not that it’s the bar, but he was the best slugger in his league twice. And is 7 homers shy of a guaranteed induction. He’s deserving as far as I’m concerned. Did Longoria ever lead the league in anything?

McGriff's highest HR total for a single season was 37, Longoria's is....36. By fWAR, Longoria has had two separate seasons that were more productive than McGriff's best season.

Having said that, I have always thought McGriff was at best, a borderline HOF level player. I have never considered Longoria to be a HOF level player. The first half decade of the latter's career seemed to be angling in that direction but he's fallen off pretty hard in the later stages of his career.

How does one define "best slugger"? HR total? SLG? OPS? BAINTL?
