Can’t think of any reason for Judge to show up to the meetings except to join SF in a presser that he signed with them. Announcing resigning Cash like they did is going to go down as one of their greatest PR **** ups of all time.

Hopefully he doesn’t do an obligatory “THANK YOU NY” full page ad in the paper. Those are always the worst and usually makes them look like giant vagines.

Seems to me like the best path would be to play Peraza at SS, keep Donaldson for 3B (ugh), go with Cabrera at 2B and IKF the utility guy. Hicks is your 4th OF, another bench spot goes to a backup C and bring back Carpenter for last bench spot.

Once DJ is healthy and/or Volpe forces a call up you deal with things then. Maybe you just DFA Donaldson. Maybe IKF has trade value worth moving on. Maybe you DFA Hicks since Cabrera can be your de facto 4th OF. By that point Stanton could be (or probably is?) on the IL and you have an open spot for a hitter.

Idk, unless they’re going buckwild and spending big on someone, seems to me it’s most logical to just keep JD and Hicks.
I agree most of that makes the most sense.

What I've been told they will give Volpe a very real chance to win a job out of ST. He's already been in Tampa for a month working on a transition to 2b or he's been working out a lot there

I will be very surprised if Hicks is back. He's only making 10m and thats a contract you can move if u add a spec or eat 2-3m. I want Flo to get a shot as the 4th OFer, but that's probably not likely

DJ being injured puts a wrench in those plans to move at least 2 of Torres, IKF and JD

Not surprising in the slightest however.

Zero chance Volpe starts the season in the majors. One, the Yankees aren't starting his clock early. Two, the Yankees don't need him to start the season.

Rodon would be an upgrade over Taillon, and Reynolds would better than what we had in centerfield last year, outside of Judge. My question is, does this make the yankees significantly better than last year? Is the addition of Reynolds and Rodon, over Taillon enough to beat the astros?? If Periera is traded, does that mean another year of IKF?! Then there's JD, who I don't see a single team taking, even if the yankees take on half his salary. This will essentially be the same team that got swept by the Astros.

Mike has been miles better than Judge when it counts.

Agreed but he is 33, can't play the field, showed massive signs of decline, and gets injured every year.

Cashman said something interesting on Hot Stove concerning Gleyber Torres playing winter ball. I had no idea that he was doing that.

Judge showing up in SD and the Yanks having no idea he was coming is a very bad sign, IMO

Based on how quiet everyone is that I'm getting info on are dead quiet. Or maybe Cashman is playing stupid, well not actually playing.

I think this thing is all but over and I'm not confident at all that we're going to be able to keep him

The only good news I have is they want Rodon either way and have a significant offer on the table for him.

The Nationals and Rockies both have legit interest in Hicks.. I think Hicks will be gone in the next 3-4 days

Lots of teams want Torres, but until they know if they need to immediately pivot from Judge or not a big trade is unlikely

If Judge is gone, I think you have to look hard at Correa for 3rd, Nimmo and Reynolds for the OF and Rodon for the rotation. We'd be adding significantly more contact, balance, speed and defense

    1 Nimmo RF
2 Correa 3rd ( no i don't want him, but it's a fairly obvious type pivot} and no one other than Peraza should be our opening day SS
    3 Rizzo
    4 Stanton DH
    5 Reynolds LF
    6 Bader CF
7 Volpe. Cabrera DJ 2nd ( I was told today that if Judge leaves they will get Volpe in the MLB ASAP. He's going to get a legit chance to make the opening day roster.
8 Trivino ( with an improved backup
    9 Peraza SS

    1 Cole
    2 Rodon
    3 Sevy
    4 Nestor
5 Montas ( Who I think will be healthy and surprise us in his walk yr

With the BP we have already and that rotation, we'd have a shot to win IMO

If the Judge has gotten anything over 9/360 then fair enough. At some point you gotta draw a line. I think the above is really strong anyway though I’d like another strong arm for the pen but maybe I’m being greedy 🤣🤣🤣

Best case regarding Montas is the Yankees are out of it by the break and can trade him for a haul

I agree with that lineup as a consolation prize. I also think we could see Beni and not Ninmo or is there any way they get Happ?

The other question is, if they truly believe Montas will rebound, wouldn't they be wise to save money to re-sign him and not give Rodon 25 per for 6 years?

    2017- Shoulder surgery
2018 -a follow up shoulder surgery
    2019- TJ surgery
    2021- shoulder fatigue

"Rodon represents the absolute greatest reward and greatest risk of anyone currently left in free agency. It’d be easy to say that his greatest risk is getting injured, except he has actually been bad healthy before. He’s not one of those pitchers who always pitched good when he’s healthy, like Jaime Garcia. And prior to 2021, his peak wasn’t really that high. But of course for about four months last year, he was possibly the greatest pitcher in baseball."

He has cluster ****, written all over him

It's sadly predictable. Like everyone here, you immediately think, they know they lost Judge so they made, Cashman the news of the day to distract from all of their failures.
    That alone is very ironic.

I am certain that Judge will do something like that.

Then again, maybe he's just ****ing around with the Yankees and plans to announce he's signing with them

It doesn't seem that way but you never know.

Thanks for the update Day, albeit both sad and maddening.

For me, I don't want a lot for Christmas...all I want for Christmas is you, Aaron Judge, do, do, do...

As for the alternate plan, it's going to cost significantly more than retaining Judge. Correa is a Boras client and wants to be the highest paid SS and Boras wants to be the hero of the off-season, so with Trey Turner signing for $300 million, there's no way that he signs for less than that. Only dealing with relevant worth, Judge is worth least 1.5 to 2 times that of Correa.. So if Correa and Nimmo is the alternative, then we are looking at $325 million for Correa and $175 million for Nimmo for a total of $500 million. At that point, you might as well give Judge whatever he wants, because $360 million sounds cheap.

Love Rodon either way and once again, due to the inflation caused by Mets and Rangers, $180 million for Rodon for 6 years sounds right.

Reynolds is tricky, because it is going to be costly in terms of prospects. After making the foolish trades that we did at the deadline, the other teams interested in Reynolds have better prospects than we do. Since we have both Peraza and Volpe in our lineup and if we want to keep Dom, then it will be tough, unless we can flip Torres or prospects that we get for him in the deal. Reynolds has 3 years of control, so he will not come cheaply.

An improved backup catcher would be a welcome addition. Don't know what it will cost us, unless we reach down to AAA for Rohrback and that would be OK with me.

Great to know that Hicks will be gone in the next 3-4 days.
