heavily expect that regardless if they sign Judge or not, expect the Yankees to get a top starter. They want Rodon, but a lot of other team do as well. The Yanks have a "price " they value him at and if they can get him for that, they're all in. Probably something in the 6yr180m ish range.
They are also heavily in on Verlander and using Cole to try and recruit him. 2yr80m with a 3rd yr option is their ceiling for him.
Senga is also someone to watch for us. He's topped out at 101 with the MLB ball and is able to throw his breaking pitches at a very similar spin rate and the shape is also very good.. He's dominated big teams in the WBC and has a better K/per9 rate than Darvish, Tanaka or Ohtani when they we're in that same league. He also has what they consider the best split CU/ forkball.. Think McClanahan split CU with even less spin( almost knuckle ballish)
https://youtu.be/aV8LYcKLONY Look at the .50 second on, they slow it way down so you can see the spin
They consider him a TORP and he won't come with any penalties to sign and gets Hal back into the Asian market again.. Senga is starting to make a lot of sense..
The ask for McCarthy is Lo, Gomez plus.. Yanks aren't willing to part with Lo for a LF, unless they can fortify the BP more. With the way Lo threw the ball from July on, he was probably their best BP arm and is probably the favorite for our closers job.
It's starting to sound more and more that they expect DJ to be out till around the AS break. It's sounding like they will keep 1 of the group of IKF, Torres and JD. IKF because of his versatility, lowest salary and contact ability probably make him the favorite. That said they aren't going to give Torres away, just to move him. If they don't get the kinda asset back for him they are looking for, they will hold onto him till summer time and hope he has a big first half again
That also fit into a better timeline for Volpe. They really want him to dominate AAA for a couple months, then call him up. Volpe is already at their Tampa facility preparing for his shot in ST. He working with pitching and the strength coaches to improve his arm strength. He isn't going to concede SS to Peraza, he wants to stay at SS if he can earn it. Ultimately, he will play wherever they think he's best suited for.
Because of Peraza's much better arm, he could end up at 3rd, maybe. There's a non zero chance that we see Peraza at 3rd, Volpe at SS and Torres at 2nd sometime next yr. Volpe would have to really improve his range and arm, but's its been discussed as 1 possibility.
This DJ injury is making what they really want to do this winter more difficult.
Judge and Hal have a in person meetings scheduled and Hal is meeting with the Pope in Rome today, ( maybe asking for special advise and blessings?lol) so it's very unlikely Judge signs anywhere before then.
Hal is also seen as willing to "chase Judge to the ends of the earth" where Cashman wouldn't. Sounds like Cash would walk at whatever price point and yrs Hal is currently offering.
