I think in reality this may be what a team should offer for Reynolds. But, the Pirates are likely going to hold off and wait out a team that offers a top prospect I would think. I think Reynolds is risky, there’s just as good of a chance that he is a decent OF going forward as there is that he is an elite OFer.
There were definately reports of him not hustling down the 1st base line in the AFL.
Whats rather odd is I've never heard of him doing anything close to that when he's been playing in the Yanks farm system.
Just my guess, but the kid probably needed a break. He played some winter ball last yr, when to ST, played all yr at 3 levels, carries the AA team to a championship and then he all of a sudden gets lazy in the AFL?
I'd have to hear about him doing more of that while playing for us before I got concerned. Plus, Rachel B, his manager from Tampa, he has a very close relationship with, would kick his *** if she heard about him doing that
Key words, used too, Hal doesn't operate that way.
I know you don't believe me but the biggest reason the Yankees won't sign a FA attached to a qualifying offer is because they absolutely won't miss on Brandon Mayea. They have had this kid "signed" for 4m plus since he was 14. This kid has better, louder tool than Dom and just about anyone else from any team you can think of at the same age. He legit comps to Sheffield offensively because of the elite bat and hand speed as well as his barrel awareness and bat to ball skills.. He's a stud offensively and thats not his best side. Defensively the range and he draw strong comps to Andrew Jones, even more so than his own son who was a top 5 pick last yr.
It's getting more and more difficult to get that kinda of talent in the system.
I totally get the perspective how stupid it is to compromise the MLB roster for a 17yr old kid, but that what happens in BB now.
I agree, but I would say they already have that inside track. I'll run it down and you tell me.
Murikami's favorite player is Matsui, he wears #55 to honor Matsui. He and Matsui have a relationship and we know Matsui was the one that convince Tanaka to come to the Yankees. Matsui's relationship and mentorship are huge advantages. Murikami also is said to want to follow in Matsui's to the NYY.
The Yanks had 3 of their top scouts watching him for 2 weeks this summer, which isn't something they do often
Murikami has said as recently as 1 week ago that he want to get to the MLB as soon as possible and plan on following Ohtani's footstep's want to come over before 25 and be able to choose the team he goes to.
For the 2024 IFA class, which Murikami would be apart of if he was to get posted next yr, the Yanks have less than 1m committed to anyone in that class. That leaves them about 4m they would be able to offer Murikami.
That says to me they have another plan for the 24 class than the usual IFA kids from the DR.
The Yanks already have close to 5m committed to the number 1 player in the 2025 class, another switch hitting SS.
The Yanks lost upward of 75-100m from their bottom line since they let Tanaka go and no longer have a player with Asian decent on there team. They have had that income stream since Irabu. Hal wants that revenue stream back, badly.
Murikami also fill a long term need. If we get Murikami after next yr he'll only be 23, he fits in perfectly with the new young core they are trying to form.
Most scouts that have seen him extensively, think he's one of the top 3 LH hitting players under 25 and easily has the best power of those guys. He's also considered a very good fielding 1st baseman..
????
They kept the Rizzo deal short and didn't put any NT clauses in it, which means he's very, very tradeable next off season.
Yanks sign Rizzo, Houston signs Abreau.
Abreau is going to be a problem in that lineup.
1 Altuve
2 Pena
3 Alverez
4 Bregman
5 Tucker
6 Abreau
Wow.. we have an uphill battle to catch them and the gap just got bigger... Come on Hal and Cash, get Judge done soon, so we don't miss anyone we need

Based on what I've been told, they only view him as a 1st base option. Most scouts don't think the arm or range is good enough to stay at 3rd long term.
Having just turned 22 and list at 6'2 218lbs ( which might be a bit light) with a very square build, there is a lot of expectation he'll continue to fill out as he develops his "man strength" . That filling out would likely effect his speed and range which are his few weaknesses.
Think of guys like Miggy and Vladdy JR, both came up as 3rd basemen with range issues and transitioned about the same age to 1st.
Generally if you have the hands to play 3rd, a player can play 1st. Murikami's calling card is the bat. Your not going to see to many better, more powerful swings around
BTW Zips projects he would hit .273/.355/.574 with 45 homers if he came stateside next yr...I'd sure love to see that from our 1st baseman

I don't see why we can't sign Murakami and put him at 3B and then transition him to 1B after Rizzo leaves. Maybe that's why Hal is not even considering keeping Gleyber at 2B and putting Volpe at 3B.
Do you ever say anything that isn't negative?? seriously, I say something about you're favorite team getting better and u say they're getting worse? who do you like less Abreau or Rizzo. U only kinda whined when Houston wanted Rizzo, so i'm gonna guess u like Abreau least?
U guys didn't sign Abreau to be an MVP candidate, kinda like we didn't sign Rizzo with the same expectations.
Abreau still make a ton of contact and drives in a lot of runs, which fits that team perfectly. Plus, with the shift going away, that should help a heavy pull hitter like him. You're kidding yourself if you do think your team didn't just get better.
Did KJ tell you Verlander is leaving Houston? and if any team can recover from losing Verlander, it's Houston. They have 3 other elite starter with another couple coming.. Jeez, you should know your own team better than that.

Personally I don’t care anymore about these damn specs who are 14-17 yrs old. They do nothing for the 2023 team. I’m also tired of the hype these kids get and when they turn 19-20 as they seem to fall down the charts. Yanks could have easily signed Harper, Machado, Correa.
George would have had Harper, Judge, Machado and Correa for the power portion of the lineup. He certainly would have traded for Verlander as well. Bird, Sánchez, Frazier? What did those bums do for us?
