Industry experts expect Judge to listen to offers/pitches from the Giants and Dodgers before the winter meetings, but they don't expect those to go past their pitches
Both Judge and Hal have expressed mutual interest in this not dragging this along and to get a deal done asap. Judge has also promised Hal the Yank will get the final word. So the decision will ultimstely be Hal's. Recently polled front office guys from lats of team have it as 80% or better Judge is coming back. multiple sources around Judge believe that he wants to see Hals commitment to spending more to put better players around him.
I was also told Judge does not want to play with JD next yr. Apparently the rift that the Jackie comment caused quite the rift among the team. Judge was also is very frustrated with Hicks and what Judge viewed as him quitting on the team once he lost his job to Cabrera
Based on the info out there rival executives would be "shocked" if Judge didn't resign with us. That same group of execs polled believe that the Yanks will make a 2nd big ticket signing besides Judge
Execs are saying that the expect the pitching market to heat up the soonest with the position players happening after the winter meeting
We are absolutely in the market for both a starter and a high leverage LHRP, they have already had a meeting with Chaffin
Don't start expecting DeGrom or Rodon because they see DeGrom as an extremely risky investment, especially for 5yrs. Rodon is looking for something along the lines of 7yrs 245M 35m AAV AND they are both tied to QO, so that makes it even more unlikely.
Yanks see Verlander as the best short term, high dollar option because the thought is if the AAV is high enough me would entertain leaving Houston
I was also told that the Yanks hav expressed heavy interest on FA LF/DH Michael Brantley. Brantley feels like a 100% Cashman move. Get the right guy just 4-5 far too late
Yankees goals this winter according to this source are
1) Judge
2) Pitching both a starter and reliever
3) LF
4) trade as much of Hicks, IKF's and JD''s contract as possible
5) use Torres as a part of a package to a starter
The Good/Bad news about the rotation is they really like their top 4 of Cole, Nestor, Sevy and even Montas. Montas is saying he hasn't pitched a full strength since coming to the Yankees. Montas has been very committed this winter to work on the thing the Yanks want him to "fix". He working on improving his CU, they changed the grip to more of a split CU and they are reworking his slider to become more of whirly than your typical SL movement. It's also the season he is pitching for a new contract, if hd can get to put up numbers similar to what he did in OAK, mabe pitch to a 3.5 ish era, that would be a big improvement over what we saw
If Montas is anywhere close to as good as he was with OAK, we'll have the best 1-4 in baseball
