Well add to that
“I don’t think it goes away that quickly,” Cashman said of Donaldson’s bat, per The Athletic’s Chris Kirschner. “That’s basically it. I think he still has game left. I think he has a chance to impact that win column. He did it for us in a different way, more so on the defensive side, but he’s certainly capable of a lot.”
JD ain't goin nowhere.
I am not going to be one bit surprised if he is the starting 3B next year and hicks is the starting LF
Ignorance is bliss
I would actually really like this. Petco is an amazing park and if you ever get the chance to go, you should. I have a buddy that bartends in their Blue Shield Club. He's been able to get me in a few times. It's right behind home plate, and they have a batting cage for the players in the restaurant. Wife is a huge Dodger fan so she wouldn't be happy, but that might force me to get a Pads hat.

Has Cashmman commented on Hicks? Chappy? Britton?
Ignorance is bliss
Are you certain?
Gio led the AL in fielding % at 3B in 2020. He had very good range and a decent arm.
His 2019 slash: 314 .355 .534 .889
His 2020: 298 .368 .490 .858
In 2021: .267 .301 .419 .720
JD in 2022: .222 .308 .374 .682 He had a career high in K's.
Donaldson was a very good player at one time. His best years appear to be behind him. He still has an OK glove (2nd in errors at 3B in 2022) with good range, but at $21.7M per he is a bit pricey and one could question the value. Imo of course.
Gio was almost 10 yrs younger than the 36 yr old Donaldson.
Sell the Team, HAL!
Doc, I may be way off the mark but is suggesting a 36 almost 37 year old hitter has lost some bat speed and because of a violent swing, can't hit the way he used to? Is that crazy?
I mean, it seems like (at least according to all the analysts) that when a guy loses bat speed, he has to cheat on FBs and is then way out in front of off speed? That makes him a "guess" hitter?
(To be very clear, none if this is directed at you or suggesting you like JD)
Seriously, the FO is saying, he's still good? I mean I am certain we all hope he proves us wrong but to say guys like him just don't lose it, is silly. Of course they do. Especially guys like him who are all or nothing type hitters.
Now could they revamp his swing, have him cut down and focus on solid contact? Sure.
Will he or they do it?
I really wonder if one of Judge's requests to stay is that they move certain guys. We will see
I also think they have to tell us JD is good because Gio's line vs JD's line this year is laughable
In 546 PAs- JD K'd 148 times, hit 15 HR. and was 222/306. OPS 682
Gio
551 PAs- K'd 96 times, hit 13 hr and was 285/338 OPS 762
Cashman got obliterated in that trade. Gio was also a fan favorite and he was replaced with JD. I had high hopes for him. I though he'd bring an edge but he fell into the Yankee way after the "Jackie" comment.
