Off Season Thread- 2022-2023

Yankee dynasty rotations were terrific. We need to get back to that.

You need to go look at those rotations.
96-Cone and Petite were amazing but the rest were mid 4s, mid 5 and mid 6 ERA
97- Cone and Petite were amazing but the rest had era's of mid 4s and one had 5+
98 was really good but you still had 2 pitchers with 4+ ERA
99 the only sub 4 ERA was Cone
2000- Clemmons was the only sub 4 ERA. Petite and El Duque were mid 4, Cone was almost 7 and Neagle was 5.8


Last year, Every yankee starter was below a 4 ERA. (Except Montas if you just take his team as a yankee) So adding Rodon makes them even better and longer. That is provided the huge "IF" comes to pass and they stay healthy.


The difference between then and now is not the rotation. It is the pen
Mo, Stanton, Nelson, Loyd and Mendoza were bullpen staples and all, really good for a 5 year period.

You were one of the ones that wanted Montas. You watched him pitch one day he was on against Houston and made a huge deal about his FB sitting 97-99 and how good his split finger was.

We haven't seen a healthy or locked in version of Montas. Hopefully he can get back to 100% and we can see the good version of him in pinstripes.

Jhonny Brito is another name to look for who could easily handle that 5th starter role right away

Cohen is going all in for Ohtani next offseason. Hal can beat him if he really want Ohtani. But Hal doesn’t want to mess up that net profit.

I sure Houston would take a healthy Montas. The guy was damaged goods. Cashman had to make some sort of a trade as the Castillo deal was not to his liking. He had the to grab the next in line but got a guy with a bum arm. Cashman thought he would be healthy for Oct and he wasn’t. But looking back he should have traded Volpe and Peraza and got us Castillo. And I highly doubt we ever see the good Montas as a Yankee. All of his trades are for guys who are hurt. Look at every single player he traded for. All were hurt. Hell, he been better off playing Pettitte $6 million to pitch 40 innings and he would have done better than Montas even at his age. Cashman will always try to find a cheap way out. Ever since Jeter went down in Oct 2012 vs Detroit he just gets bounce back candidates, tries to squeeze one more year out of a old former star, trades for an injured player with hope he can be healthy when needed. There is a long list of these players since 2013….And Kevin Youkilis started it all…..BTW, how did he work with the Yankees? And then Hal will order Cashman to sign a few big names to calm the Yankee fans down.

I’ve about had with Cashman. I might have to start following the Rays as they get more bang out of their buck. The Rays will still scare the Yankees all season.

Look, I’m notswitching to a full time Rays fan. I live in the Tampa Bay Area. I don’t even get the Tampa Bay Times anymore so I don’t even read the sports. They only deliver twice a week to your house so why pay money for that crummy service? I realize I can read the entire paper online but you have to pay full price and that is a joke. I lost track who the Rays even had for a roster. Of course I see box scores and watch a few games here and there but I read more about the NY teams than the Bay Area teams. So I highly doubt I’ll be switching. I’m just saying the Rays would be a more exciting team to watch as their record indicates that they get more bang for their buck. Ur I. The end if the Yankees and Rays played in the ALCS I’d be rooting 100% for the Yankees. The Rays are that stepsister team.

It's really not as significant of a difference as you're trying to make it out to be.

1996-2001 Yankees SP: 95 ERA- (4th in MLB), 93 FIP- (2nd in MLB), 4.40 ERA (7th in MLB), 2.11 K/BB (tied for 6th in MLB)

2018-2022 Yankees SP: 94 ERA- (7th in MLB), 94 FIP- (7th in MLB), 4.00 ERA (9th in MLB), 3.54 K/BB (4th in MLB)

I hate the Montas deal..

BUT, if we are being honest, to say they haven’t put a rotation (on paper, anyways) that should be capable of going all the way, is just not fair.

Besides the bullpen issues, mostly due to injury, the pitching staff held up their end last season. And the staff should be better all around, this year
