What if that's the sole reason he stayed? So him and Rizzo's dog could continue banging on the regular lol

I started following the Yankees back in 1976. I remember the Chambliss HR vs KC. I was like 8 years old. From 1976-1983 my favorite Yankee players were Munson, Reggie, Guidry, Nettles and Gossage.

Then Mattingly came aboard and he was and still is my favorite of all time Yankee players. If he just could have made it through 1992/93 at that elite level that he was at in the mid 80s and then declined he would have been a shoe in with the HOF. But the back went and so did his power….

When Mattingly and Winfield got their bad backs the team went down the toilet fast. And then Oakland ripped off George with the Rickey Henderson trade. Eric ker Plunk and Luis Polonia. What a joke of a trade. That has to be one of the worst Yankee trades ever.

Yankees, Mets get new timeline for Angels-Shohei Ohtani trade talks
    Published: Jan. 26, 2023, 5:45 a.m.
By Mike Rosenstein | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

SNY’s Andy Martino reports the Los Angeles Angels still may trade two-way star Shohei Ohtani, even though owner Arte Moreno has decided not to sell the franchise.

A person familiar with the Angels organization predicted that the year would now play out this way for Ohtani: The Angels will hold him for a few months to see if they can remain in contention. If they fail to do so, general manager Perry Minasian would have to seek permission from an unpredictable owner to solicit offers for him prior to the trade deadline. If Moreno allows it, the ask will be extremely high.

It's such a weird scenario. He's going to be a free agent. Why would any team give up a ton, unless they also signed him long term?

As nice as it would be to see him as the DH, where would the Yankees put Stanton?
Would they dare pay someone more than they did Judge?

DJ LeMahieu did all he could. The Yankees’ second baseman consulted foot specialists, wore custom orthotics and tried simply to fight through the pain. But when it was time for manager Aaron Boone to finalize the roster for the first round of the playoffs last year, his gut told him to leave off LeMahieu, one of his best hitters and quiet leaders. The injury to a ligament in the second toe of LeMahieu’s right foot had become too big a problem. Boone described LeMahieu as a “shell of himself” toward the end of the regular season. LeMahieu never appeared in the playoffs for the Yankees.

I unfortunately can't access it but I saw some excerpts. Is this where Kuty says the IF will be
    JD-Peraza-DJ-Rizzo?

In no way can I see Torres on the bench. I can certainly see DJ at 3b two or three times, a week, 2B once a week, 1B once or twice a week.

Yankees working to trade former All-Star infielder
    Published: Jan. 25, 2023, 5:15 a.m.
By Mike Rosenstein | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

The New York Yankees want to trade Josh Donaldson. But they might have to settle for moving Gleyber Torres.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports “Their preference almost certainly is to move Donaldson, who is owed $21 million this season and a $6 million buyout on his $16 million mutual option for 2024. Torres, however, probably is of greater interest to clubs. He asked for $10.2 million in arbitration, and is under club control through 2024. The Yankees offered him $9.7 million.”

It would be foolish to move him just because of JD's contract. Torres is a better player by far. If they are getting high value for him? Ok But trading him simply to clear a roster spot and to free up 2B?
Unless they are set on Peraza - Volpe up the middle, it makes zero sense to trade Torres and make your IF even older and slower.

Torres should only be moved if they get high value and a player of need. Happ is not a player of need.
He would need to be all star quality to make it worth while. (Or a boatload of high level specs.)

I couldn't agree more. In fact I don't want to see Torres moved period. However, for the absolutely right player and with Volpe getting close I could understand the move.

They may not want to commit big money to Torres, which I’d understand

If that’s the case, you move him now, and extract max value

Yankees apparent biggest surplus is the infield depth.

Biggest need we are thinking is in the outfield.

If they can get a solid left fielder while cleaning up some infield depth, that's a win win.

I agree. But I think Torres is worth more than Happ. I think he's worth more than Kepler. If they could move him and a mid level arm for Reynolds? That's a good deal
I am concerned they do the Cashman thing and trade him for some 35+ year old, middling player.
