Gallo x2 would be way harder to watch than Javy Vazquez imo. I don't think the shift ban will help him since he makes contact at the same rate I would.

You are judging Peraza's bat based on 3 playoff AB's when he hadn't played in two weeks, yet choose to overlook the fact he hit over .300 in his first taste of MLB ball.

Cashman himself has said recently that Volpe is starting to be viewed as a 2nd baseman and that will probably be his best position at the MLB level.

We've already seen a preview of Peraza in the MLB and he didn't disappoint on either side of the ball.

We have zero clue how Volpe will do at the same level. He sure didn't play well in AAA, striking out well over 30% of the time.

Just because Volpe was labeled the golden child doesn't mean he is. How is he going to handle all the pressure the Yanks have put on him? he's nothing like Jeter tools wise and if fans are expecting him to be that, they are severely miss informed about Volpe and naïve.

Think of the labels analyst have put on our specs, Man-ban was Santana 2.0, Devi was the next coming of Pedro, Dom is Jackson/Trout/ Mantle, Volpe is the next Jeter, Jones is a LHed Judge. Putting HOF type comps on young kids is just flat silly, yet there are people that wonder why we are disappointed with the outcome of our prospects.

I can also say that Peraza had a small sample size as well with the good things you mentioned.

Look, I want both to be part of the team. I don’t care where they play. If they are both good then it helps the Yankees out.

But Volpe is the golden child and he will get more chances to succeed IMO. He will have the longer leash…

that's more than fair and I don't disagree.

I have concerns with all the pressure the Yankees the Yanks are putting on Volpe by using him as the big reason they passed on other premium SS, being comped to Jete and playing so close to home with those huge expectations, he'll have a serious uphill battle to be successful.

Tools wise, Volpe doesn't have the elite tools that you would expect from his rankings. His mental makeup allows him to get the most out of those tools, but is that going to be enough to make him a star? With his tools profile, he easil could end up a desent MLB player, but he's going to really have to work hard to be better than an above avg everyday regular.

Any concerns i have about him defensively at SS go away at 2nd base. I actually think he would be in the conversation for the best defensive 2nd baseman rather quickly.

Peraza hasn't been as hyped as Volpe, so he doesn't have nearly the pressure that Volpe does. I my be in the minority but IMO your going to see the bat improve even more at the MLB level. The power is just starting to show up in games and that will get better. For me he's a GG caliber defender, with an above avg bat. His speed also ups his offensive profile.

I think if both these guys play in the same INF up the middle, we'll be very happy with the results, especially defensively.

Day I just saw the MLB Pipeline’s top 10 prospects at SS.

    The #1 guy is Volpe.

How come Peraza is not even in the top 10? Or I don’t even know if he is even in the rest of the list.

The Yankees and catching coach Tanner Swanson agreed to a new contract. In Jose Trevino and Kyle Higashioka, the Yankees boasted one of the best defensive duos last year, according to Baseball Prospectus' fielding runs above average metric.

MLB pipeline has always been extremely high on Volpe and lower on Peraza. They also just ranked them on their top100 list. SS is the most represented position on that list and I believe they have Peraza 57th which is like 11th or 12.

A lot of spec sites value the bat more than what a player brings defensively. I don't really buy into the MLB pipeline, BA, Specs 1500 and fangraphs are more accurate IMO

And just because they are on the list at a certain position doesn't mean they're going to stick. (I know this is the point you were making and it's directed more towards Nick) Bregman was drafted second overall as a SS out of LSU. He was a top spect almost immediately, as a SS. He played some games there his rookie year but it was decided pretty early on that he didn't have a future there. They have to list Volpe as a SS because that's what he is in the minors, doesn't mean thats what he'll be in the majors.

exactly, said it better than I could. I've actually said for a while Volpe's best MLB comp as Bregman. The funny part is most Yankees fans aren't happy with that. If Volpe turns into a player like Bregman, thats a hell of an outcome. He's supposed to be the next Jeter, except they have 0 similarities in their tools

Anyone can make a list that says pretty much anything with prospects. I've seen a very respected prospect guy that made a very strong case that Volpe is our 5th best SS prospect in the system factoring defense into the equation. He's got Peraza, Cabrera, Arias and Keiner Delgado ( a name you are going to see a lot more often) ahead of Volpe.

Same guy has him as our best 2nd base prospect. The tools just profile much better for him at 2nd base

I guess everybody has their own assessments on these players. We can only find out when they are called up to the majors.

That's why it's fun and exciting. If we knew for sure, there would be no risk and nothing to surprise us.

Thats all the spec guys are asking for is giving them a legit chance.

Give Flo 100-150 ABS and if he doesn't cut it, he becomes a good 4th OFer on his speed and defense alone.

Give the SS job to Peraza and see how he does with it. Whenever Volpe is deemed ready give him the same shot at 2nd base

How good was Donnie BB? Before his back betrayed him maybe the best in the game.

    Don Mattingly Avg Season 1984-87:

    154 G, 102 R, 210 H, 46 2B, 30 HR, 121 RBI, 50 BB, 37 SO, 6.3 bWAR

    .337/.381/.560 (.941 OPS/155 OPS+)

Led baseball in SLG, OPS, 2B, and RBI during that four year stretch while hitting .337 and averaging 37 strikeouts per year.
