Makes perfect sense, Cashman trades the 2 best LH pitchers we developed in yrs in the same deal. Then he is going to go after the guy he left unprotected in the rule V, that turned into a great #2 for the White Soxs. Now he wants him back after 10yrs when he's on the down hill side of his career.. Parade, for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually don't mind Quintana but after you put it that way, damn. lol

A player the Yankees should target is Devers. He would destroy YS. He is a tough out. He's not great defensively but he's not bad and I am sure could move to first and be good.

And so would Bryce Harper. How did that work out?

I think he has another year of RedSox control anyway.

I would argue clarifying rather than walking back. He claims certain things were taken out of context. My read it was a very generic statement ie "the manager always pays."

Mo is going to be intimidated? By whom and for what purpose? He's a HOFer and one of the greatest closers in MLB history. You think he cares if he's not invited to an old timers game or spring training? He has a plaque in Cooperstown! Is it about access? Who would deny a HOFer access to anything BB related? Does he fear pizzing off Hal? I doubt it.

His legacy is cemented for eternity in monument park.

    Fair point.
I wouldn't say intimidated but I could certainly see the FO asking him nicely, to clarify.

To me, he made a very clear comment, even within the context.

"If I'm the owner, he wouldn't stay," Rivera said in Spanish. "... Obviously all blame points at the manager, but players also have to do their job. ... Sometimes when things don't come out the way we want them to be, the blame falls on the manager. And someone has to pay for the blame, the players won't get fired. The manager is the one that always gets fired. You try to do something to try fix things."

I just don't think there is anything that needs clarification with that. He did't say "Boone stinks". He said he would fire him if he owned the team because the team needs a change. That's my read.

I don't think it's an egregious comment. That's why I find him clarifying it to be odd.

I think saying “if I’m the owner, I’d fire him” is pretty clear. No further comment needed

    Regardless of the reasons

I agree not terribly egregious, however maybe he felt the need to clarify due to his intent. I don't think he was trying to bury Boone, but rather give a very generic response.

"I said when a team like this, the New York Yankees, is expected to win, the season that they had, and they don't make it to the end, always the manager is the one that always ends up paying," Rivera said during a telephone interview with the AP.

"Although the manager doesn't hit, the manager doesn't pitch, the manager doesn't run, the manager doesn't do nothing but manage and make sure everybody's ready to play, unfortunately they never fire the whole team, they always fire the manager. I was giving a generic estimation. And obviously they took it out of context."

    Basically, yes, isn’t it?

“If I was the owner, he wouldn’t stay” right?

However you explain it afterwards, that’s pretty much it, no? Because if you were the owner, and didn’t think he did a bad job, you wouldn’t say something like that

Basically yes. "he wouldn't stay" he did not say "I'd fire him." I realize it's a semantic difference and I apologize for even bringing it up.

My point, I don't believe Mo was intentionally dumping on Boone. I don't think his intent was malicious, but rather a matter of fact. The manager is always the target.

For the record I never wanted Boone. I hope he does get the axe. I wish they kept Giardi.

Regardless of how he said it, or how he explains it, the meaning is the same. And no, not every time a team loses, people don’t say to fire the coach
