Uhhh Braves will option both Braden Shewmake and Vaughn Grissom to Triple-A Gwinnett??
Arcia is starting SS.... why? Guess they don't trust Grissoms glove at SS enough.
https://twitter.com/DOBrienATL/statu...145459201?s=20#Braves didn't want to lose any depth, which they would have if they had kept Arcia as utility -- would've lost Adrianza. Considering how many they needed to get through season at 2B in '22, they wanted to keep Adrianza (has no options) and let kids get more time at Triple A
I don’t like this decision at all. I am starting to worry about ATL this year. SP is already dealing with injuries, SS and LF are looking pretty weak and they are in a pretty tough division. Now they are making decisions based in keeping Adrianza instead of playing a guy like Grissom??
I am not the smartest guy in the room, but this feels like clear playing time manipulation. Grissom has to be in the minors until mid-June and Shewmake can be called up earlier than that for ATL to retain a year of control. ATL is fine rolling out a lesser SS and bench spot to manipulate the player clock. Not sure that is the best decision when you are supposedly in the middle of a WS window.

welp, looks like it turns out it was my option A. they don't like him at short, at least not yet.
Seems Grissom might be dealing with a hernia issue also, another reason for this move.

It isn't necessarily about not liking Grissom at SS, based on what some of the analysts online have been saying. This is reportedly about protecting Adrianza, who was out of options and would have had to be released if either Grissom or Shewmake was kept in Atlanta. I'll admit, this is a bizarre move just to protect an average 33 year old backup infielder, as it makes the team in Atlanta worse right now. I imagine we'll be seeing either Grissom or Shewmake in Atlanta by June 1, as Arcia & Adrianza aren't going to hit well enough to hold down the SS position for very long.
I can't help but wonder why, if they had any doubts about Grissom, didn't they just sign Elvis Andrus to a 1 year $3 million dollar deal this winter? Then, you can start Andrus, a proven but unspectacular SS, at SS and have Arcia in a backup role. Then you can have Grissom and Shewmake spend time at AAA getting more experience.
Instead, they are now going to go with Arcia as the starter & Adrianza as the backup at SS. To me, Andrus/Arcia is a better combo than Arcia/Adrianza for not all that much more money.
Soroka saw his first game action this spring today, as he threw 1 1/3 innings. He apparently hit 95 to 96 with his fastball and moved well in fielding a weakly hit ball near the pitcher's mound. It would be an incredible story if he can truly be healthy this year and get back to pitching.
Raisel Iglesias will begin the season on the IL with shoulder inflammation.
I don't see how Shuster hasn't locked up a starting spot. 18 innings pitched 3 earned runs.
It sounds like the A's are giving up on Cristian Pache and intend to DFA him. He hasn't hit at the major league level in the limited time that he's been there but it's a bit surprising to see them give up on him only 12 months after acquiring him in the Matt Olson trade.
