I think it has more to do with the fact that they dont want him getting hurt in a meaningless game with the playoffs coming. Thats fine by me.

Add to the above the facts that it's cold, miserable conditions, a day game after he played every inning in a doubleheader played in equally miserable conditions, McNeil has had a history of leg issues and he doesn't know how to hold back. I wonder what they would have done if he trailed Freeman by a point.

The manager wanted to sit Ted Williams to protect his .400 batting average. Ted said no, put me in and wound up at .406

Its a noble concept. If the Mets had nothing to play for, I would say yeah put him in but could you imagine how much **** would be thrown at Buck and Eppler if McNeil pulled a hamstring or sprained an ankle in today's game. Like Futurist said, McNeil has a history of leg injuries. Its just not worth it.

The Mets sucked in 2011 when Reyes won the batting title.

At the end of that game the Red Sox were still 17 games behind the Yankees. So why not?

    Batting Title Scenarios:

Is McNeill sits or Mets rained out:
Freeman needs 4 for 4 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 1 for 1 or 1 for 2:
Freeman needs 5 for 5 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 1 for 3:
Freeman needs 4 for 4 to beat him

If McNeill goes 1 for 4:
Freeman needs 4 for 5 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 1 for 5:
Freeman needs 3 for 3 to beat him.

If McNeIl goes 0 for 1:
Freeman needs 4 for 5 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 0 for 2:
Freeman needs 3 for 3 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 0 for 3:
Freeman needs 3 for 4 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 0 for 4:
Freeman needs 2 for 3 to beat him.

If McNeill goes 0 for 5:
Freeman needs 2 for 4 to beat him.

Since both games start at the same time, Iíd keep McNeill out of the starting lineup, but if Freeman gets three straight hits, maybe have McNeill pinch hit.

If thatís the reason then thatís fine with me too. The Reyes thing really rubbed me the wrong way

The rain delay helps McNeill. They will know what Freeman is doing. If Freeman makes outs, McNeill can sit. If Freeman gets four straight hits, McNeill can pinch hit.

Freeman flies out his 3rd At-Bat. That should clinch it for McNeill,
