We were the best team in baseball in 2006. The Scott Spezio HR off Mota was what changed that Cards series. I'll never forget him shaking off LoDuca on 0-2 because he wanted to throw another fastball.. Ha, sounds very familiar. Anyway, Paul should've gone out and talked to him. Yea.. I remember it all too well.

I think age played a role too. Mets IIRC are the oldest team — avg age of roster. 162 is a grind and it certainly looks like the older players — maybe minus Escobar — are feeling it. That and not having Marte really exposed the bottom of the lineup.

Swept. They should be embarrassed for choking. 11 hits to 5 and they fail again. No excuses about losing 12 games in the standings. The 3-1 lead no outs was the first turning point. Second was Bassett choking.

Welp. At least we made the playoffs but an ailing Mets team with guys who fold in the biggest moment going into wild card weekend against a team that beat us isn't looking good. And likely no Marte so our bad offense will look worse.
