I really like the idea of him as the next bench coach. Mendoza is probably going to get one of the vacant managers jobs.

I'd love to see him in the bench coach/ hitting coach role. Mattingly made a hell of a career pounding that short porch. With so many LH and SH young players that could be up soon, Mattingly could be a huge benefit to those players as a hitting coach. I'd love to send Wells, Flo, Sweeney and Jones to him for a few weeks and see if they can't pick up a few things.

I'm not sure they could find a better "mentor" type coach for Wells, especially is they are going to move him to 1st base.. Sweeney also

He'd make a great bench coach, but would that intimidate Boone, IDK and F'him anyway.

F Boone. Send him back to ESPN. I'd take Donnie over him 10x out of 10.

My 13 year old niece would intimidate Boone.

Lol. Doc!! Boone is the shoulder to cry on, The compassionate and understanding ear, the cup of tea and a blanket.

Cashman knows Boone needs those type of coaches around him to keep him able to be grandma

Mattingly would slap the **** out of him

I like the idea of keeping Mattingly close, regardless of the role, just in case they (Hal and co.) decide to make a change in managers. This is the reason I believe Boone may be intimidated by his presence. He would be looking over his shoulder and second guessing his decisions possibly.
