Glad to see we've signed Wade Miley and are nickel and diming Burnes in arbitration. I think this fully cements that burnes won't be back long term. Maybe woody or Adames will be, but no way you fight for $750k in arb if you're having good negotiations with the guy on an extension.

This team is doing what we do every year. If everything breaks just right, we can possibly contend. Problem is, the likelihood of everything breaking right is slim, which means we probably end up winning like 86 games and are in the hunt for a wild card for a decent chunk of the year like always.

I like the Brian Anderson signing. That being said, it's such an annoying signing too because it's typical Brewers. Maybe Anderson is the guy we wanted all along. But it feels like we look at the market and instead of going to getting the guy we want, we wait until the market is picked over and then we sign whoever is left for a cheaper deal. And normally I would say that's fine. But for once I wouldn't hate actually trying to fill a hole on the team with a guy we like, not just whoever is left.

It's nothing against Anderson or Miley, but those guys aren't needle movers. We aren't that much better with them than without.

Net so far this year we lost Renfroe, Wong, narvaez and some middle to later relief. We've gained contreras, Anderson, winker, Miley and some cheap relief options. We aren't really worse, but our post hader trade team was not great last year anyways. So it's hard to imagine we are actually good this year.

Looks like we really aren't going to make any more moves. Ashby is already hurt and will be out a few months.

I can't think of a single position outside of catcher we improved at this winter. 1B is the same. Wong struggled defensively last year, but as a whole he was solid. Hard to say what we have is better now. SS is the same. 3rd added Anderson to the mix, but he's nothing special. Maybe it's better but it's not much if it is. The OF as a whole is probably worse with Renfroe out and winker plus some prospects in. The bullpen feels worse. The SP group is about the same, especially with Ashby's injury.

This offense is even worse than last year's. Adames stunk with some power but not enough to justify .205. The bottom of the order and the OF are nearly sure outs outside of Yeli. TT and Wiemer have been really bad.

Would like for this team to go get a Grichuk or Profar or someone for the OF. Avi Garcia has stunk in MIA but hits lefties at a .282 clip and could play some and maybe produce like he did for one year in MKE. Be a big upgrade but not if he has more than a 1 year left.

This team is just not very good. Feels like we've been winning with smoke and mirrors when we do win, but there's just not enough talent. The pitching injuries hurt, but the offense is just bad. And it was bad last year. And it doesn't seem to have a ton of hopes of improving. Maybe frelick and/or Mitchell will be good. Not giving up on weimer, but this was always a somewhat likely outcome. Ideally he starts hitting for some more power, but him basicaly being a faster but with less power version of joey gallo was always in the range of outcomes for him. I'm not a huge Mitchell believer as he really hasn't hit all that well at any level, but maybe he figures it out. Frelick I like but also worry that his upside is essentially just a really solid player.

Chourio is obviously the future, but who else is with him. I really want to blow it up this year. If a team like LA has interest in Adames, make the move. Hopefully burnes has a few good starts here, but move on from him. This team doesnt have the talent to be really good and the farm isn't good enough to think we can be really good in a few years. Feels like hitting a reset and building around a timeline that fits chourio is a way better idea than whatever we're currently doing.

Agree for the most part. Frelick to me feels like a pretty solid all-around player in all liklihood. Good defender with a solid average minimal power I'd take in CF. Mitchell has more power theoretically but he rarely hits the ball in the air and hasn't stayed healthy at any level either. Wiemer at least when he gets hits they are XBH and he's a really good defender. But I agree on the talent aspect. Not all that great and feels like it's more at AA and that's really about it. Quero and Chourio are both gonna be really good I think. Also not sure about the pitching in our system seems like there could be some guys but even Gasser not sure how good he'll be.

I wanted the Brewers if Adames wasn't signing a team-friendly deal to move on and trade him to the highest bidder. Burnes too makes sense but I hate the midseason move especially in a winnable NL Central. I know not likely to make a run but if Woody gets healthy and you have that rotation you can make a run. THe Giants back in the day didn't have the best teams and won WS. I largely agree with you though for sure.
