I still say that Rodon was the best chance we will ever see of signing an ace, but it had to be done last year. And we didnít even think he was worth a QOÖ comical.

We should have signed Rodon and traded Giolito last offseason. We waited a year too long and now his value is greatly diminished. And regarding Rodon, we arenít even in the same arena, let alone the same table. Again, a year too late. That seems to be the recurring theme with this FO.

In some ways, the Esteban Loizzas and Johnny Cuetos are the worst thing that can happen to a team like the Sox. The successes usually happen in a mediocre season, and they make the FO seem to think that they can rely on those lightning in the bottle scenarios as a strategy.

So far you were right on Rodon....Again let's see what he does and if he stays healthy through the length of whatever deal he gets.
Two years ago he 100% faded on the Sox and it started in August, this year he lasted longer....Like I said let's see him pitch a team to the WS and pitch like an ace in the series....Then you he will earn the money he's going to get in his FA contract.

The thing is that they could have signed him for far less and a lot shorter term, last offseason. Now he would be 1/3 to 1/2 the way thru the deal and he would have been well on his way to earning it.

When he fell off in 2021, it had all the signs of arm fatigue, coming off TJ and not logging many innings the previous seasons. He also was statistically just as effective the 2nd half of that season, but his velo was down. Sox knew or should have known that there was no structural damage to Rodon. There is no way he pitches how he did last season with an existing injury.

Not to mention that generally, a team is always going to have to overpay for an ace, and a good portion of the contract looks bad. That is usually the case with few exceptions. Thatís just the cost of signing an ace in todayís game.

The guy they should have moved is Giolito. He has/had the look of a guy whoís arm just doesnít have it anymore. They really could have gotten a haul for him last year, which could have plugged quite a few gaps in our roster, or at the very least have been used as capital to acquire some pieces.

8mil this year and 12mil next with a mutual buyout of 4mil. Pretty good deal and a tremendous bargain if he returns to pre-TJ surgery form.
    We Gotta Believe!
