Four reasons the Yankees have played sub-.500 basebal

Four reasons the Yankees have played sub-.500 baseball after scorching-hot start
The Yankees are 22-25 in their last 47 games and 1-7 in their last eight

By Mike Axisa 21 hrs ago

    1. They've dealt with injuries.

    2. The rotation has come back to Earth.

    3. Bullpen roles are unsettled.

    4. Judge doesn't have much help.

Worthwhile read. You may not agree with the pov, but he supports and substantiates his argument.

I completely agree. I think many posters have said very similar.

My only argument is that the pen is not just unsettled, it's also underperforming

If Lo and Chappy were pitching to expectations, they'd be fine.. Cashman or the CPU is making bad decision out there, Marinaccio and Schmidt shouldn't be in AAA for any reason

Lo has to have options right? He has to go down at this point, he isn't worthy of a MLB roster spot right now.

Axisa is pretty much always spot on. Miss RAB so much.

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

And if Holmes didn’t blow 5 games in the past month they’d be fine as well.

Day, Chap has been fine in his past 15 games. Why do you do you continue to give the blind eye to Holmes?

I don't follow him on there. But looking at the posts on there, it looks like he posts a 2 or more times per week.

Kinda seemed obvious that Holmes shouldn't be closing. I certainly don't have all the answers

My guess either Holmes is injuried and trying to ide it or his is tipping his pitches. More probable is that he's tipping them somehkw and his te!l got passed around to all the teams at the All Star game.
Just as important is King being out for the year.
Third is loss of protection for Judge with at least two out of three of Stanton, Rizzo and Carpenter being out for the last 20-25 games.
Fourth is drop of production from Torres since All Star game. Also contributes to #3 above.

I’m not saying you did but you covered everything perfectly but did leave Holmes out of the equation.

How is losing command tipping pitches? He has 11 base on balls in his last 13 innings. So usually after a walk he gives up a hit because he is trying to center his pitches and the sinker is hittable and the runners from the walks are scoring…..

If anything he is reverting back to his Colorado days with no command. Blake has to watch video and correct it.

Most of the excuses you people come up are tipping pitches or injury. Can’t we just say he stinks right now and call a spade a spade?

I think Nicky raises a valid point. His BB rate is higher now than earlier in season. Seems to be a command issue. Imo Holmes closing was always a temporary situ giving Chapman time to find his stuff. Holmes pitched extreme well in first half. Seems something is off since the break.

Could he be hiding an injury that is effecting his command? Sure.
