It obviously did matter because he ended up with a different team.

Heat out here snitching over tucker lol... Silver has his smoking gun because of how much he hates us we gonna lose 5 firsts. They will never allow the process to succeed.
ESPN literally reported Tucker was going to sign with Philadelphia with cap space they didn't have at the time. Considering that Milwaukee got punished two years ago over a trade that didn't even go through and Miami/Chicago got punished last year for getting highly sought after talent, it stands to reason that Philly should get punished too.

The NBA should have never gone down this road of punishing teams for things like this. Obviously, you don't want teams/executives making public comments about players under contract, but free agency has been done this way for decades. Unfortunately now that they have started punishing teams, they have to continue because otherwise Milwaukee/Miami/Chicago were unfairly persecuted for doing something everyone else does. Philly should get exactly what Miami/Chicago got last year.

If Philly receives worse, that is also unfair.

The only part of it is that I think discussing the opt out and then in theory subsequent contract with Harden ebough though he's under contract was technically tampering too. So in theory they did tamper with tucker and Harden. If they count them as two separate violations, then I could see a harsher punishment, but I would think it would be possibly a larger fine or more 2nd rounders. If they bump it to a 1st or something, then that would be rough.

It depends on the details. If team A, B, and C did 1, 2, and 3 the same, team D may do 1, 2, and 3 too from the outside but may have done 4, 5, and 6 too. The punishment could be more harsh for a reason, the only thing that is certain is that the NBA won't tell us unless it helps them.
