Britton is having his first bullpen session on this upcoming Tuesday. As the injuries pile up it would be nice to have him come out if that session feeling great.

I still think JO Sears can be a huge bullpen weapon.

Again, .700 teams get all of the breaks. We had a very weakened lineup and still managed to win. I believe if we can navigate the ship through this strong storm over the weekend that we might be able to add 2 games to the lead.

Before the hit by Rizzo to break it wide open I loved how we scored a run in that inning without the ball leaving the infield.

The Rays started tonight has pitched 27 innings and has only allowed 15 hits. With the Yanks based in Tampa you would have thought that Cashman would have sent some spies on how the Rays continue to do it with regards to a entire pitching staff under $10 million.

Maybe because its a key game the Yanks can't afford to let get away, especially since some poster here said Yanks season is over if they don't win his series.

7 runs? I think that was enough cushion to give Banuelos 3 batters.

The ninth inning was a perfect example of why I think Boone is a bad manager. Cortes had given an impressive eight inning performance and was over 100 pitches. There is no reason a good manager would bring him back out for the ninth with a 7-0 lead. We had Banuelos in the pen and if you are not going to use him with a 7-0 lead then there is no reason to have him in the pen. Even if he comes out and gives up three home runs, we still have a 4 run lead and only three outs to get. We have three more games against Tampa, then after a day off, we have the first place Angels, and then Tampa and Houston. And to start warming up King was ridiculous. With the lead, King should not have thrown any pitches today. Save him for when a game is on the line and we truly need a high leverage arm.

Also, sending Cortes out there for the ninth and removing him after giving up a hit ends his day on a sour note, and having that run score and be charged to him should piss him off.

It was just bad managing all around. This would have been a great time to see what Banuelos looks like in a major league game against a good team. Whether he is up one more game or more, getting a read on whether he can consistently throw strikes and get a good team out would have been good information to have. Boone, though, as he often does, missed an opportunity.

I agree with the entire post. That was my feeling also, about Manny. Why not say "Thanks Nestor, Great game. Have a seat." Then have Benuelos start the 9th? If he loads the bases with no outs, get him out of the game. If he pitches well? Awesome.

Cortes will be effective all season.

Why does he do so well with lessor fastball? Besides his command the batter does not see the ball until the last possible moment and that 93 FB looks and plays like a 97 heater, they react too late, that split second kills them….Major leaguers can time a 98 heater with a normal pitching delivery. They just can’t time Cortes very well because he hides that ball so late and before you know it the ball is on them and they get late swings.

Plus he mixes his pitches very well along with the arm angles.

The Rays TV announcer said Cortes will have a very long career as a starter.

He's getting close to 25 starts and 150 IP as a starter. With the way the treat starting pitchers these days, that is almost a full season.

I do agree with u though, I want to see what his numbers look like after the regular season. I would be pretty surprised if he turned back into a pumpkin though. The stuff is to consistently good for that to go completely backwards

He is already showing #1 results with the numbers.

If you didn’t know who thst pitcher was and just saw the numbers you’d think he is a #1

But I get the full season stuff. Problem I still belive most of you on here will then say let’s see what he can do for 5 straight years. Then after 5 years we’ll let’s see what he does after 10 years.

He doesn’t move the needle for you guys because he doesn’t throw gas, it is thst simple, he doesn’t move the needle.

Nestor has turned himself into a modern Day Tom Glavine (avg velocity of cutter was 92), except better stuff and more varying of arm angles and delivery. There's no reason this is not sustainable. The game is different today, but Glavine had a long, successful career. Cortes can do it too. Anything can happen. Injuries, getting complacent, etc, but the ingredients are there for him to continue his dominance. He's no less likely to have a long, successful career than Grayson Rodriguez, Shane Baz or Espino.
