I was told there would be freedom of speech!

These school boards are going way overboard in freaking out about literally every little thing. Books about acceptance of those different from you are somehow a threat to the people who tell us they support near absolute freedom of speech.

The issue is that some school systems have decided to make a major push to dictate how our children are raised and who decides how and what the children get taught. When a school board or teacher blocks the parents from having the final say on whether children go through sex change procedures and instead can keep the parent in the dark about what gets decided as it pertains to their children, we have to support the parents in stopping this from happening.

Did a Pennsylvania school board also do what the article says a Virginia school board did?

    Typo. Sorry.
    Edit:
It was Virginia. What do you think about the school board decision?

As someone who got in trouble for wearing a BBQ festival tshirt to school one day because one of the sponsors of the event had their logo (Budweiser) on the shirt, I think that these school boards make entirely backwards decisions.

If the student wants to wear the shirt and it’s not hurting anyone, I don’t rightly give a ****. There shouldn’t be any promotion of the shirt or anything else by the school board. But I also don’t think someone wearing an Allah or satanist tshirt should get in trouble.

It wouldn't have been a problem if it was student-led, but it wasn't.

"The concerns about the warmups are not related to student speech as the team members did not initiate the discussion or purchase the shirts," the statement reads. "The role of the School Board is to implement our policies in an unbiased way. Staff-led activism is a topic our Board has been discussing throughout the year, including flags, posters, and clothing that show support for specific groups or issues. It is not permissible for school-issued, staff-sponsored apparel to promote specific causes, groups, or beliefs."

"It is a grotesque parody of the bazaar at Marrakech, as if dumb animals had been granted only the amount of sentience required to mock humanity."

Give an inch and someone will take a mile. Harmless things get banned because there’s always the idiot out there that has to go too far and ruin things for everybody.

All religions pray, in their own ways. Meditation is a form of prayer. Muslims pray to Allah. Jews to Jehovah. Buddhists and Taoists pray to their deities. Satanists pray to Satan. How is saying "Pray for Ukraine" too religious?

    1. Read what you wrote. It is nonsense.

    2. Add to it, there are plenty of people — quite intelligent people even — who practice no religion.

    3. To be honest, while I would prefer something more like “Work for Peace”, in general I have no problem with “Pray for Peace” for Ukraine (I do note, however, that there was precious little groundswell to pray for peace in, say, Syria). Hey, folks want to walk the streets wearing that slogan on their shirts, fine. In fact, all the more opportunity to scoff at them.

    4. But public schools are not the streets.

Meditation isn't the same as prayers. One is emptying one's mind of thoughts to be aware of the divine, while prayer can be form of devotion or asking for direction. One is passive the other active.

Meditation is NOT a form of prayer.
