What makes a "super team" vs. just a great team?

When does a team cross the threshold into being a super team?

How many super teams have we seen in the NBA?

Super teams date back as far as you can remember or look up.

If you ever wondered why the Lakers and Celtics have so many ships, just go look at some of their rosters, and then go look at the top 50 all time list. It’s actually fascinating.

Super teams have multiple HOF potential MVP type players that you can give the ball too when things break down and comfortable say go win the game.

Well yes. Because a bunch of ***hats like to use their own definition of a super team to put down players.

It's common sense. All player/team analysis is only relative to era.

A great team is one that ticks.
Having multiple Hall of Famers isn't a condition as you cna become a HoF candidate by just being surrounded by greatness (ie McHale, Worthy, Pippen, Klay Thompson, Tony Parker and a bunch of 60s Celtics players etc) and having the right teammates, coaching staff and be part of the right organization.

A super team is a team that relies on a few great individuals that would have been MVP candidates on their own merit.

Apart from the mid 2010s Warriors and the early 2010s Spurs, we haven't had a great team in the previous decade. Only superteams. And that's where the focus is. Even the Warriors shifted their focus.

You realize that opens the door to "a super team is a team with 2 All-Stars in the 90s and a super team is a team with 4 All-Stars in the 2010s. Why? Cause I said so" arguments, right?

Super team -> Created via FA and players forcing their way to the same team.
Great team -> Built organically through the draft and smart trades for players.

Current example:
Super Team -> Nets, Lakers
Great Team -> Warriors, Bucks

Grey zone teams -> Suns, Heat. They didn't have multiple players force their way there. They were good via the draft, but the one game changer for each franchise came via a trade where they would only go there.
