I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

Always thought he was going to be a fascinating FA case. 6/$140 is interesting. It's not terrible but he does carry a decent amount of risk. Thought maybe he'd get a little higher AAV on a shorter deal, but this is probably about right.

But high K, low BB guys are always a major risk to up and down years because they are even more beholden to BABIP luck than most. Need him to continue to be a high level defender and base runner and those attributes typically don't age crazy well. But we'll see with him. Not a bad deal, but a very interesting player.

He apparently wanted 175. Surprised he only got 140

Cubs offered him this same deal 2 offseasons ago. They gauged his value accurately. Several flaws to his game but he brings plenty of great traits to your team and he's worth the headaches. Itll be fun to see all the young talent come up soon and he will surely be adored in that clubhouse.

I'm surprised he even got that much. Can't see this contract working well for Detroit.

He's very versatile I'm not too surprised by this deal.

Tigers fans are going to love Javy. He will also frustrate the ever-loving hell out them.

Ok....I'm not asking Sox or Cub fans this but the "neutral" fans in here....They are both similar ages 28 vs 29....
Which SS would you pay 6 years 144 mil to Tim Anderson or Javier Baez??

I'll take it. Going through last season with Zach Short, Willi and Harold Castro, and Niko Goodrum at short has prepared me for frustration, at least Javy will give us some actual high moments too.

My initial instinct is to say "neither".

Agreed but Id lean Anderson. Seems to be a more all around offensive player where Javy is boom or bust.

I know both dont walk much and avg is overrated but Id take the guy with a little less Hr with a better average and better plate discipline.

I also think Javy could be trending down while Tim may be this hitter for a little longer. Basically I think Anderson Carries more value over that contract lengthz

Yeah, if I had to choose one it'd most likely be Anderson as well.
