A very old pitcher you guys would have brought back in a heartbeat if the Mets didn't pay him.

We would have for 2 years max. Max will still be a great pitcher for 1-2 years but after that you may get 1 elite year of Max and 2 mediocre years that pays him 40+ million for those 2 years. But he could surprise us and have 3 elite years but age will eventually catch up with you.

BTW when is the last time the team that spent the most money in free agency ended up winning the WS that year? Dodgers been doing that for a while and only 1 ring to show for. Sometimes an average team with 1-2 stars will take down the team full of stars who disappear when it matters most.

Last year Seager carried us to a ring. This year Rosario carried the Braves. Next year someone like Taylor, Lux, can step up and carried the Dodgers to another ring. That could also be said about 5-8 other MLB teams. Nobody expect the Braves to win the WS this year. 90% of the time the WS favorites to start the year don't even make it to the WS. Dodgers still in a great position with Turner @ SS and financial flexibility.

Don't be surprise if Dodgers start signing guys like Castellanos, Bryant for 2-3 years with a high annual salary.

Should be a much better investment than Bauer.

I don't think he's a bust. I think he just needs the right motivation to pick himself up & play harder.

I am sure the Dodgers will make a big move. They are good for it but you did lose arguably your best pitcher (and the best pitcher in the 2nd half in baseball last year) and a great SS. Yeah you got Trea Turner but you may also lose more pieces like Jansen, Taylor, perhaps even Kershaw if he decides to go elsewhere.

I'd bet on 2 really good years from Scherzer. After that, you live with the sunken cost. Still a better expenditure than Trevor Bauer who no one even knows if the Dodger locker room wants him back.

Btw, the Rangers have spent the most in FA this offseason so far and they're presumably nowhere near competing next year. You take steps. The Mets are taking steps by adding in FA without sacrificing prospects or draft picks.

yeah, we lost both of them and we still win the WS with them. A team like the Braves who lost there best player ended up winning it. It just takes 1 guy to get hot come playoff time to carry a team. Dodgers by far had the better talent on the roster of any playoff team last year and that got us nothing. Sooner or later an average player will outshine the star player when it matters most in October. Look @ what Rosario did for the Braves. He played better than any of our star players.

Dodgers will make moves. They may not have the talent from last year but they will still have a great team that can contend for a title. Question will be who will get hot next year and carry their team to the WS.

BTW. deGrom is one bat pitch from blowing his elbow. Didn't he have a minor tear this year? The scarring will still be there and sooner or later his elbow will give out. Maybe not be this year but it will eventually happen considering he throws 102+ MPH. Then if that were to happen the Mets are back to being a mediocre team. Scherzer alone won't be able to carry them all the way.

Every pitcher is one pitch away from blowing out their elbow. Walker Buehler throwing 98 or 99 consistently should concern you as well. That's the reality of pitchers. Whatever the case is, the Mets aren't done in FA. That's the good thing about having the richest owner in the sport. They're not afraid to spend money just like the Dodgers weren't. Everyone has to start somewhere though.

Hey look the Dodgers have their own things to be concerned about and that division is by no means a layup. Is Bellinger going to hit? How many guys are they losing in FA? Is Justin Turner finally starting to show his age? What do they do about Trevor Bauer? So far this offseason has been a loss for you guys.
