The U.S. has now had 40 mass killings so far this year. A database run by The Associated Press, USA Today and Northeastern University that tracks every mass killing in America going back to 2006 shows this year has been especially violent (the database defines a mass killing as at least four people killed, not including the killer).

And our politicians appear to be perfectly fine with it.

....but it's so much easier to demonize states like California and New York when we don't look at rate stats!

and would you look at IL, specifically Chicago, which is yet again well outside the top 20 cities for gun deaths. Hell Chicago doesn't even hold the highest rate in its own state, and the state itself is one of the least amount of gun deaths per capita.

If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.

I am shocked at this day and age, when someone isn't able to understand a PER rate..

Rates and ratios are supposed to be taught in 6th grade. It really speaks to where a lot of people's quality education ended (probably even before 6th grade).

I mean, we know why gun nuts don't want to use rates. Of course there are more murders in Chicago, a metro of nearly 10M people, compared to Birmingham, AL, with a metro of 1.1M people. But the fact remains, Birmingham has 50.62/100,000, while Chicago has 18.62/100,000.

That means, and stay with me republicans, you are over twice as likely to be murdered in Birmingham, AL, than you are Chicago, IL.

The other argument nearly every right wing gun lover makes, is large metro areas are all BLUE. This totally and completely ignores the fact that the gun laws, and economic policies that force desperation and crime, are coming down from red leaders and their policies.

It’s amazing what happens when people fall for a media narrative.
