Twins -- 2022

The Twins obviously need some pitching, but there are other issues facing this ballclub. What to do with Buxton? What to do with Kepler? Can Sano learn to hit anything but a fastball? Will Arraez and Garver stay in Twins' uniforms? Can Lewis come back and play at 100%? What to do with Nick Gordon?
I could see the Twins moving Sano to DH and shifting Donaldson to 1B with Miranda coming up to play 3B. I could see a couple of the young outfielders (Kirilloff and Larnach) ending up playing the corners and Buxton playing CF.
As to the pitching, is Jax ready for prime-time? How about Ryan and Ober? Are they ready for the next step? What to do in the bullpen? It was a mess this year. Obviously, Colume wasn't the answer as a closer, but can he get back to his previous form? Will he still be in a Twins' uniform next spring?
Can this team contend next year?

Arraez never should have moved from second. I don't know if we can sign Buxton to a big deal if he is always hurt and does he really want to be here? I think we have to trade him. I am not impressed with Sano and would be ok to trade him away. Those two trades could bring in some quality guys. We have to bring in pitching and will have to step up and pay guys to come here. We have to be careful not to overspend on a unproven guy or we get pitching with those trades and go young and do the Twins norm and rebuild.

2B -- Gordon/Arraez/Polanco -- maybe
SS -- Polanco/Gordon/Lewis -- maybe
3B -- Donaldson/Arraez -- yes.
LF -- Kirilloff -- yes.
CF -- Buxton -- yes.
RF -- Kepler/Larnach -- yes.
C -- Garver/Jeffers -- maybe
DH -- Sano/Rooker/Donaldson/Larnach -- maybe
SP -- Ryan/Ober/Jax/Dobnak/Strottman/Thorpe/Smeltzer/Maeda -- no.
RP -- Rogers (Cl)/Duffy/Alcala/Thielbar/Minaya/Garza/Moran/Columbe/Stashak -- maybe.

Too many question marks to call this a potential contender next year, IMO. It could be a long year in Minneapolis, but I'll still be a Twins' fan.

That's because the team is not particularly good the way it is currently constructed. There are a lot of young guys that need to take the next step for this team to be competitive. Miranda or Lewis could be a ROY candidates. The young pitching could be really good, but they have to show it on the field.
The outfield, if healthy, could be as good as any in the majors. If Donaldson stays healthy, he is still a quality 3B. Polanco is a decent offensive player. Garver could be a good one.
The 40-man roster currently sits at 37 so there is room for some new players to come in via trades or FA.

I wonder if they knew about the work stoppage and tried to get Buxton signed before it the stoppage?

I'm sure that was the reason the deal came to fruition when it did. The Twins have not been as busy as some teams, but they have gotten a few deals done.

Well, not that I expected him back, but we now know Simmons won't be our SS

Royce Lewis hasn't really played in 2 years...Nick Gordon showed enough to stick IMO....
I know they'll likely not make any big signing...it's the Twins' way after all.....but are some combination of Donaldson, Arrias, Lewis, Gordon, and Polanco going to be our non-1B infield? Or does Martin figure in?

And could Max Kepler be traded for pitching?
