If they go into next yr with Gallo hitting in the top half of the lineup and supposed to be one of our better players i completely agree thats a big issue. If they get a Seager and are able to get Olsen or Rizzo for the top of the lineup and Gallo is down in the order somewhere in the 6-8 range i think he could be a good piece. He's elite defensively, can play multiple positions very well and brings a ton of athleticism to the lineup.

He's gonna hit 40hrs and get on base a ton but, if he farther down the lineup and not in a position that he needs to be counted on to drive in runs consistently, I don't think its horrible with what else he brings.

I'd love to see him moved in a trade for another big piece, but if the can land two other LH bats and Gallo ends up back i don't think its the worst thing

gallo hit 160 with a 303 obp and struck out 45% of the time as a yankee..

Well, now the 40 man is officially full.

They saved a million by doing this. His option they declined was 3 million. They signed him to a 1 year 2 million deal.

His deal had a 500k buyout. So, he still gets that but the rangers paid that.

Except he was pitching well even after “the crackdown”. His last few starts ruined his numbers. Which coincide with the hamstring issue. He was first or second in every key pitching category in the AL before that. And still was 3rd or better in al those. So I’m not sure exactly what you’re talking about

Advantages of Matt Olson:

1. The never ending cycle of finding fill-in first basemen comes to an end.
2. Test run for Olson and possible extension.
3. LH power (much needed)
4. Gives Yankees a way to add a RH SS and still keep some balance in lineup.
5. Cost efficient ($$$)

How is Olsen going to be cost efficient? Olsen is the guy you trade for and then extend immediately. That is not cost effective.

Zero chance they trade Volpe. He's the 1 spec that is completely untouchable. Arias is 16 and yrs and yrs away, he's definitely the best IFA spec this yr but until he gets stateside he's pretty much an unknown. Because of Covid, same thing with Dominguez, he hasn't played much live in 2yrs and he's spent the last yr working out at the Yanks DR academy. He is also a switch hitter which usually takes longer to develop

He's currently making $6 million with 2 years of control. Maybe he makes $25 Million in total with arb raises those two years if you don't extend him. Compare that to Freddie Freeman's $30 million or Rizzo's $20 million per year and it is cost efficient, at least for the current year. Next off season, I agree that you should sign him long-term...or if you buyout his two years of arbitration and sign him now, you might save money on the contract overall.

Per source, Rodriguez gets one-year, $2M, as @Joelsherman1 said. Previously had received $500K buyout when Yankees declined his $3M option. Deal also includes $250K in incentives.
