Best all-in-one metrics per NBA leaders.

    https://twitter.com/bryankalbrosky/s...076190211?s=21

I asked 30 of the most trusted minds in basketball, including dozens of NBA executives, how they felt about composite, all-in-one metrics. Is there one we should be citing in our evaluations?

This is one of the favorites I've ever written for @HoopsHype:

This story discusses the following impact metrics:

    BPM (@bball_ref)
    DPM (@kmedved)
    EPM (@taylor_snarr)
    FIC (@******)
    LEBRON (@The_BBall_Index)
    PER (@johnhollinger)
    PIE (@nbastats)
    RAPM (@rd11490)
    RAPTOR (@FiveThirtyEight)
    RPM (@ESPNStatsInfo)
    WPA (@inpredict)
    WS/48 (@jkubatko)

When all metrics are saying the same thing, I think it can be telling.

Really good article. Since PIPM is no longer a thing I'm partial to Bball index's LEBRON since it utilizes Second Synergy tracking data, and attempts to contextualize things by having offensive and defensive archetypes. It was also made by a PSD alum so it has my support.

I think stats enhance observations and either reinforce or make you reassess what you think you are observing. They also let you try to break down and see the connections between different areas in a very multifaceted and interconnected game. These all in one stats donít do anything other then give the ESPN hot take crowd something else to talk loudly about imo

I wish there was a better metric that show individual defensive ratings. drtg and real plus minus are so misleading.

The article said that's kinda the next step is contextualized all-in-one duty specific stats. They want to be able to break down and contextualize positional differences. The one in there was like the stat Utah used puts Rudy and Conley as top 10 players in the NBA, but another one used puts Simmons as a better defender. So there's going to be a stat to be able to account for the difference in role but the one stat can level that out.

As individual player tracking data becomes very available we'll get better defensive stats.

That the player is likely more impactful. I donít subscribe to the idea that because statistics are not 100% accurate they have no value nor can any information be gleaned from them.

I donít either. I donít get how you can trust or learn from. a stat you canít see at all. Itís blind fate.
