Norman Powell, back to Portland, 5/$90mil

    Per Shams/Woj

Getting the band back together that Lillard called "not a championship roster".

man life is so tough for these small market teams that refuse to go the OKC road. you get a star like lillard, but no one wants to come or you worry about him leaving so your just cobble together some 50 win roster that every once in a while puts together a conference run, but has no shot at a non covid title.

The parts I count the worst:
LMA wasn’t going to resign but they held onto him anyways.
They kept sending out picks to bring in replacement level role players.
They were bad at drafting and development.
    They kept drafting freaking guards.

And yes I make fun of Utah and Indy for being perennial treadmill teams of non-lotto or fringe playoff teams that rather just make it than win, but the scouting and development departments in those franchises are amazing. The ability to have best picks at 8-14 and still get the players they do. The ability to teach guys a role. Constantly nailing it in trades. Some teams need to get better at that skill.

Yeah, he's a way better value per year at that price than Duncan Robinson. I'm not sure I agree with Portland's plan on running it back (if that is indeed their strategy), but this is solid value for an 18+ PPG guy with solid defense and elite 3-point shooting.

I think Portland will end up making a big trade but yeah I think this was great value for Norm

It is straight up bizarre to me that people are acting like the Blazers are some train wreck of an organization. They’ve had literally 9 losing seasons in the last 45 years.

This is not some inept organization.

Not being to the Finals since 1992 may be the larger talking point though. No one is claiming they're the Kings.
