I guess it makes a reference to these statues at the department of transportation in Cleveland.

I get why they changed the name. It's still a dumb name.

And now they will have a "guardians of the galaxy" night with the characters from the movie in costume on the field before the game. A marketing idea that would make Bill Veeck cringe.

We have teams named after socks, a few teams named after birds, and a team named after a color.

    Could be worse.

I mean, were there ever Pirates in Pittsburgh? There arenít any Tigers in Detroit, no more bears or Cubs in the state of Illinois, and what the **** is so angelic about Anaheim?

Not that I disagree with your premise but comparing a name being pickier in the 21st century to a name picked in the 20th century is a little disingenuous

I thought the Tigers and Pirates were named after the striped socks they wore back in the day. The Cubs named because they started as a group of orphans. Angles because Los Angeles is the city of Angels

They're still called the Los Angeles Angels... of Anaheim

    Guardians is an OK name

Horrible name. I hate Washington Football Team, and think Baseball Club would be a better name than Guardians. The logo is worse than the city hats that New Era put out earlier this year and the ASG jerseys combined.

Anaheim hasn't been part of their name for like five years now.
