Great AB from Ortega despite striking out. Spit on some good pitches, fouled some off, but made deGrom work.

And the Cubs can afford all of these players if they wanted to sign them. I just don't think they want to commit to them. They should commit to Bryant, though.
My feeling is these guys want the big bucks FA money and the Cubs haven't wanted to give it to them. Given the seasons Baez, Bryant, and Rizzo had last year I kinda get some hesitation on the Cubs part back in ST. Maybe less so Rizzo because of his consistency.

I think the Cubs have probably given at least some of these guys good offers, but not stupidly amazing FA offers. You look at what Arenado got and the contract Lindor got and our core guys are licking their lips at what they could get in FA, and I don't blame them.

If you were Bryant and the Cubs offered you 25 mil per year, and you knew you had the potential to get 35 mil a year, many people would choose to wait for FA, especially if you have Boras whispering in your ear.

If any of them think they are going to get $35M per year they might want to consider retirement. No one is giving any Cubs player that.

Lindor has been a down ballot MVP player practically since he entered the league. Bryant hasn't been that since 2017. Baez was only that for 1 year and that 1 year wasnt even that good. Rizzo hasnt gotten any MVP votes since 2018.

Degrom was dominating our little bootyholes. We may have a slim chance to win now

If cubs dont resign Javy, it wouldn't surprise me if he ends up with Mets and Lindor and plays 2B

He had no-hit stuff vs a pretty no-hittable lineup. It would big to steal this one. Not sure how much longer they can go with Stock if they want a chance.
