Simmons had a triple single in the loss. When do people start viewing that contract as an albatross?

Because Trey Young doesn’t exist.
Trae Young scored 4 points on 33% shooting when Simmons as the primary defender.

In 2 games:
4points, 2/6 shooting, 0/2 from 3, 4 ast.
Ben is shutting down Trae.

He is a very good defender. Atlanta offense is based on forcing switches and rotations. He is not going to be as successful when your best defensive option is able to stay on him and he will often choose to move the ball in those spots. Young was awesome in game 1 and pretty effective in game 2. Simmons did not shut him down either game or hold him to his worse game of the season.
To his credit he is good and I think Young has more difficulties when a big is squared in front of him. He wasn’t very successful when the Knicks just straight switched Randle on to him. His D could be a big factor his series. Does make him worth the huge contract? I doubt it

Whatever value that adds.... It still doesn't add $31M worth of value.
Simmons has become this polarizing figure where people either think he's an overpaid and overrated mediocre player, or you think he's this DPOY monster.
There's no inbetween where he's a great defensive player who is a critical piece in his team's winning while simultaneously having massive holes in his game due to poor FT shooting and lack of aggression who's way overpaid.

From Bodner:
RE: Simmons: The Sixers shot 55.4% as a team, and averaged 126.8 pts/100 possessions, with Simmons on the floor last night, as Simmons locked down one of the most locked-in offensive players in the playoffs

Thing is Thybulle is becoming a lock down perimeter defender at a fraction of the cost of Simmons. Ben is going to be making $34, $36, & $38 mill over the next 3 seasons. It’s no secret that his lack of shooting and some times assertiveness hinders the 6ers. I can’t help but think if Embiid had a different co star that the 6ers would have had more success by now. And Embiid becomes a free agent after next season, at what point do the 6ers run the risk of him saying I could win somewhere else, with someone else?
