Not very reassuring, that's for sure.
There is going to be a few unhappy people with Kurt in this forum, this week.
Kurt wont give it to Brady when he averaged 7.4. Both mahommes and Carr averaged 7.9 yards per pass average in 2020. So does that mean Brady is a check down qb or the savior of the world(like he thinks).

By my count, the #Raiders have 85 players on the practice field for the first day of mandatory minicamp. Players on the active roster who aren't here: OG Denzelle Good, OT Kolton Miller, DE Malcolm Koonce, LB Divine Deablo and CB Isaiah Johnson.
I wanna see our picks sign already

Did you feel the analysis ,by Kurt Warner, was legit or reasonable? Or do you feel Warner is another hater of Derek Carr?
Nothing wrong with Derek Carr trying to get greedy on some of those plays, EVEN IF HE THROWS MORE INTERCEPTIONS. It could possibly result in a winning performance.

    Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Tom Brady has a career 7.5 average and Carrs is 7.0.

Yeah, I think when you focus on a stat, it clouds conversation. The stat is not the problem. It's leaving plays on the field, that is drawing criticism. That's reasonable.

We know the defense is the Raider's biggest flaw, but it certainly wouldn't kill Carr to possibly focus on those types of plays. Honestly, if he could execute those plays well, he would be a top 5 QB. He could command 40 mil a year.

PS. The defense still sucks, we still don't have any LBs.

Yes. Too many times they settled for FGs from 20-29. Carlson had more attempts at that range than any other kicker in the league in 2020.

I felt like the balance between taking chances and keeping possession was pretty good last year.

With the defense as bad as it was, it made sense to keep them off the field as much as possible, and try to reduce possessions per game. And let's be real here, any turnover on a short field (or even deep in enemy territory for that matter) was very likely to be a quick TD for the other team. It's easy to say go ahead and throw more INTs by taking more chances, it's another thing to live with the reality.

Keep in mind that even with the offense helping the D as much as it did by keeping possessions to a minimum, we still gave up a franchise record in points. And the offense finished pretty well overall, despite the lack of a defense who could consistently get them the ball back or give them short fields. Even a slightly below average D probably boosts our offensive production into the top 5.

Imagine how much worse it would have been if we'd been chucking the ball around. Maybe we score more ... but you also have to factor in giving opponents another 2-3 possessions per game, and also giving them more turnovers and short fields. Do that and we very well might have been looking at not only the worst defense in Raiders history, but the worst in *LEAGUE* history by a significant margin.

The fact that we got to 8-8 with that defense, an inconsistent run game, and receivers getting frequent dropsies ... it's a damn miracle. The one thing that went well for us is the passing game, and there's only so much you can expect when that's all you got going for you.

Solid Points. Our defense couldn't stop anybody last year and turning the ball over by being aggressive in the passing game probably wouldn't have equaled more wins.

I could see arguing that a team should take more chances if the offense sucks altogether. I mean, if you're mostly doing 3 and outs or turning the ball over anyway, yet you have a pretty decent defense, you might as well take a bunch of shots at big plays because there's no downside. But that wasn't our situation.

So you feel that Kurt Warner's criticism was unwarranted? or not applicable to this team?

Also keep in mind half of the Warner video is him talking about how Carr is one of his favorite players and he plays very well. Sure there was criticism of Carr in the video as well but if you are going to talk about that part of the video don't ignore the first half where he talks up Carr and his abilities as well.

Correct, and we are addressing the criticism of Derek by Kurt Warner. That is what we are talking about here. We all know Derek is a good QB. It is about getting better.
