Update on the Taillon trade. Taillon has been awesome for the past month, while Yajure and Contreras are both injured (Contreras with the ever ominous forearm strain). Canaan Smith is having a decent year in Double-A though with very little power. Maikol Escotto is having a decent year in Low-A with very little power or speed.

I think so far this trade has started to work out great for the Yankees depending on how Taillon finishes the year. They could come to regret the trade in the coming years though if Contreras turns out like he could and Yajure ends up being a #3.

TJ's last 4 starts have been good. I think that's about the best you can say about him and the trade. Three of the four prospects the yankees gave up ended up on the Pirates 30 top prospects. If that's what the going rate is for a starter with two tj surgeries then the yankees absolutely need trade Montgomery and German in the offseason.

I agree, he's looked like a totally different pitcher his last handful of starts. The arm action doesn't look as forced as it used to be and he's been mixing his pitches much better. His 4 seam has become a much more effective pitch since he's back to using his sinker.

Early in the yr he was primarily throwning his 4 seam and CB, players were laying off the CB and sitting FB. Now that he is throwing his sinker, 4 seam, CB, SL and CU he has been a much better pitcher. I'm not sold that he's going to be the guy from his last 5 starts going forward but is see him being a mid 3 era guy going forward. If he can pitch to a 3.5 ERA for the rest of the yr, its hard not to get a little excited about him next yr. If he's closer to this guy than the guy we say the first part of the yr it hard not to like this trade for us.

I don't think it should be to shocking that it took the guy 15 plus starts to begin to figure it out. He hasn't pitched in 2yrs, rebuilt his motion and changed the majority of his pitches. Clown had always said we needed to give him till the trade deadline to really judge him and he was correct.

This is what the Yanks were hoping for when they traded for him. If he can stay healthy, by the end of the yr, IMO we'll be happy we made this deal.

Depending if they trade any of our top pitching specs, we could have an extremely good rotation next yr.

He Phoba, what do you think about our about Brendan Beck, Richard Fitts and Chandler Champlain ? They all look like really promising picks. Beck, if the Yanks can add a couple of ticks to his velo like they have shown they can easily do in the past, looks like he could be a very,very good pitcher.
Fitts was a top 100 guy from a great fall but fell because of a bad spring but looks like with a little development on his command he could be a nice piece also

agreed completely, i posted something similar before i saw this. I also think his SL has looked much better lately also and even the CU has been more than a show me pitch. Good call by Gary, telling to go back to his sinker

I wonder if he shied away from the sinking because the new motion rendered it less affective and now that he's thinking less about it and just throwing, the pitch has better life?
But I agree with all of you, that sinker has been a game changer for him

Vallejo is a 21-year old infielder who hasn’t hit much in his brief career. However, he has drawn 41 walks in 290 career plate appearances.

He left the game early last time out – obviously, it was nothing serious. After his big “put him on the map” season with Charleston in 2017, Perez has run into the injury bug. He pitched 25 innings in 2018 and didn’t pitch again until this season. I believe Perez is a minor league free agent this winter. The Yankees are highly unlikely to add him to the 40-man, so we’ll see where his career path goes. Given what he has gone through, one would assume he would be willing to re-sign with the organization.

These kids must get rattled seeing guys fly out the door. I wonder if minor league teams, of contenders see a dip in their numbers close to the deadline, especially if their team is rumored to be making moves that will include mi or leaguers?
