He's off to an incredible start and pounding the ball. I wonder if it's somewhat sustainable or he's just really hot right now

Being a switch hitter with power from both sides and the ability to play all 3 OF positions should give him the floor of a 4th ofer

C Josh Breaux has been placed on the injured list down in Somerset. Thus far this season, Breaux has shown off his trademark power but hasn’t been able to get on track overall.
LHP Tyler Lyons, who made the roster for the 2019 playoffs, has been assigned to Scranton. He was immediately placed on the “Restricted List.” You will sometimes see this list come up in my “Injury Tracker.” Essentially, this is where players go if they have left the organization but the team wishes to retain the rights to the player. Players who are away from the team for reasons beyond injury can also be added to this list.

.209/.274/.403 in 74 PA. Of his 14 hits, ten have gone for extra bases (8 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run). He has six walks in 74 PA (8.1%). That is a touch higher than his number in Double-A last season (7.5%). Does that matter? If a player can maintain or increase his walk rate as he moves up the ladder, yes that matters but walk rate will never be a strength. To compare it to MLB, the league average walk rate in 2021 was 8.7%. This year, it is 8.9%.

Hudson Valley Renegades (12-8) (Outran Wilmington, 7-6)

After tonight’s action, Hudson Valley has stolen 56 bases in 20 games this season. They are stealing at an 83.6% rate. Entering tonight, Jersey Shore (hitting .197 as a team) has a 51-for-54 success rate stealing bases. While I have no trouble encouraging stolen bases, we can’t be seeing stuff like this in MLB.

Yankees’ system debut (started the season on the IL). Ramirez pitched to a 7.34 ERA over 38 IP last season in the Braves organization. Why are the Yankees intrigued? It is likely those 59 strikeouts in 38 innings. Get a good arm, and see what you can do with it. No risk.

.159/.203/.246 in 74 PA. Not the start he wanted. He was able to get on a little streak in April but couldn’t quite maintain it.
CF Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-3, K
.216/.237/.311 in 76 PA (4 doubles, 1 HR, 6 RBI, 8 R, 2 BB, 26 K (34.2%), 3-for-4, SB). I won’t sugarcoat it: These numbers are not good. He needs to adjust – the truly great prospects eventually do.
LF Alex Mejia: 0-for-3, K
DH Antonio Gomez: 1-for-3
Single in the 7th (remember that minor league doubleheaders are 7-inning games) broke up a no-hitter. He is at .179/.281/.232 in 64 PA. On the positive side, he has reached base in nine straight games, though he only reached base once in each game. The stats start to move up when you start seeing things happening in multiples.
3B Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-2, BB, K
.241/.339/.444 in 62 PA (3 doubles, 1 triple, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 5 R, 8 BB, 24 K). An acceptable start to his first full-season league campaign.
C Anthony Seigler: 0-for-3, K
.270/.449/.541 in 49 PA.
RF Raimfer Salinas: 0-for-2
.242/.375/.242 in 40 PA. I love stat lines like this.
2B Roberto Chirinos: 0-for-1, BB

2022 debut. Normally a catcher, Guerrero was drafted in the 18th round in the 2018 draft out of high school. He is still only 22 years old. Last season, he hit .403/.475/.701 in 29 games between the GCL and Hudson Valley.

RHP Josue Panacual: (L, 0-2) 4 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K
He was strong after a tough first inning. The offense just couldn’t get on track to support it. He owns a 3.45 ERA in 15.2 IP (11 H, 10 R, 6 ER, 0 HR, 7 BB, 17 K)
RHP Kevin Milam: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

Yankees should draft him and make him a starter. That's my position on it. Anyone who throws that hard has ace potential. If he fails to become that ace, so be it. He can go back to being a back end reliever.

I watched him throw 3 innings today and i think you're right. He hit 105.5 in his 2nd inning of work, the fastest pitch ever thrown in college BB.

I think you're on to something though. He can hold 100 plus velo for 3 IN, why not see if he could do it for 5-6? The arm motion isn't pretty, but when you throw that hard, you really don't have to be pretty doing it,lol

If you can make him a starter, wow. If you can't, you put him back into the BP and let him be a MIRP/closer

You gotta think Pereira and Wells should get the bump by the end of the month, they both played a big part of last yr in high A last yr.

I think it's entirely possibly, i'll even say probable that thats the exact reason they aren't handing out big deals. All the guys mentioned were high draft picks or big dollar IFA signing so they have the pedigree you like to see with your top specs.

I really think it's entirely possible they end up with Peraza a SS, Volpe at 2nd or 3rd, Cabrera ends up as the super utility guy and Pereira ends up as one of the OFers

The 1st base mix is going to be interesting because they have 2, possibly 3 big time specs that could end up at 1st. Obviously Wells is likely to end up there, but they have been continuing to put him behind the plate. In a shocking development, his arm and motion have improved, a lot.

If A Garcia continues like he has the last season, he might be the most likely choice to end up at 1st. He's 6'5-6 250 so he makes a huge target over there. He's a switch hitter, with huge power, especially from the LH side and he's walking as much as he's striking out. That's a hell of an interesting 1st base profile that could turn into an absolute monster over there. He legit has Judge/Stanton type power/ exit velo and anytime u can add a switch hitter to the lineup, IMO thats huge

Sweeney is also a big kid at 6'4 220 and has great hands. He won't stay at SS long term with us and if Volpe is at 3rd, 1st could be a legit option. I really love the idea of him at 1st because being a good defensive SS, u would think that would make him at least an above avg to plus defender at 1st and give you a big LHed bat also

The only reason i'm not positive that those could be likely results for those guys is we still have to see how they do at AA. Until they can pass the AA test, it's a lot of hoping. I always come back to Flo as the cautionary tale of getting to excited about kids who look great in A ball. Flo looked like a star and was a top 30 spec when he was in high A and has never fixed the approach/ pick recognition issues.

I would bet pretty much anything that Peraza and Cabrera are going to be MLB players, Volpe very likely. The rest, we'll see but its very promising.

The crazy part is we aren't mentioning Arias, Dom, Perkins, Gomez, Vargas and lots of others that have huge ceilings.

I know from people i've talked to in the Yanks management, that they are extremely high on their guys we have and they have more than a couple in their future plans

Austin Wells not including today 5/1/2022 has played 120 games in the minors. His averages are 271 AVG/.396 OBP/.483 SLG/.879 OPS 27 Doubles 5 Triples 19 Homeruns 85 RBI 85 Walks 138 Ks 24 SB. Move him to 1B or LF. Should have his bat in the lineup everyday
