My lord, Mayea's swing is really quick and compact. I love the front leg swing. It's not shocking he's getting compared to Sheffield

You'll never in a million tries guess who he credits with helping his swing. Gary Effing Sanchez.

They spent a lot of time working out in the DR during the lockout. Strange things can happen, lol

Mayea went from a defense first prospect, to someone who has an elite offensive talent also

Maybe Gary is a great coach? Stranger things have happened. If he does truly feel let down by coaches, maybe he wants to help other players.
I hope he is a good coach and it's fantastic he's helped this kid

Meet the Yankee drawing comps to Gary Sheffield
    January 19th, 2023
    Bryan Hoch Bryan Hoch@BryanHoch

The newest name to know in the Yankees organization is Brando Mayea.

This past week, the Yankees agreed to an estimated $4.35 million deal with the powerful outfielder from Havana, Cuba, who has been compared to a “mini Gary Sheffield” by one talent evaluator. Mayea was rated as the No. 9 prospect on MLB Pipeline’s International Top 50 list.

    The #Yankees:
    7. Anthony Volpe
    48. Oswald Peraza
    57. Spencer Jones
    63. Jasson Dominguez
    Yankees FanGraphs top 100 list

I'm not sure that you'll find bigger fans of Jones than myself , Phoba, and NYYNews-TV but 57th overall is a bit of a stretch IMO

So we have Mantle/Trout comps for Dom, Arod/Correa for Arias, Jeter comps for Volpe and now Machado/Sheff comps for Mayea. Then people wonder why we are consistently disappointed how are prospects turnout?

Mayea gets those comps because of his elite bat to ball skills and barrel awareness, not because anyone thinks he's going to have a career like Sheff did
