Mets have been even worse at scoring runs than the Cubs this year, in fact worst in the MLB by far.

Let's hope we can get to the Mets pen and Arrieta has a decent start.

And by hot take logic that means the Mets will score ALL THE RUNS during this series. Probably not but it'll feel like it.

    --------

There something about the Cubs being 6-9 on 4/20. (Thanks Cubs twitter.)

Anyone read the ESPN piece on the the Cubs offense.

"They're trying to change their philosophy, but with this core group, they had one philosophy and all these guys bought into it," one scout opined. "It's turned into a one-dimensional offense. There's something to be said about contact and putting the ball in play."

Wow, so the scouts have picked up on something that's been blatantly obvious to the rest of us for 5 years.

It's even worse than their record indicates.

Confirms the obvious to me about their one note mindset as hitters. Nodding my head in total agreement with every single word. The scouts and pitchers around the league have figured out the highly flawed approach of this broken offense, with spot on comments in the simple ease in shutting them down as a lineup, and that Rizzo is the only guy that is able to adjust at the plate. As a team, they've been getting badly exposed since mid 2018 and it's been a collective organizational failure to be honest, so removing a player here and there like a Schwarber and Russell isn't going to fix jack squat. Terrific article. Nailed their issues.

The little things don't show up in WAR, OPS, wRC+ etc. Situational hitting has absolutely zero impact on those stats. Putting the ball in play to force errors or move a guy over a base doesn't show up in those stats. Ability to execute hit-and-runs doesn't show up.

We used to judge players on stats like Runs, RBI, K, AVG. Sure those have major flaws, but your focus determines your reality. If you don't care about RBI, K, AVG etc anymore, especially when drafting and developing and coaching players, then you're not going to try to excel at them as much as people used to. Cubs care about launch angle, exit velo, walks/OBP. Well exit velo is nice but it doesn't mean anything if you strand runners in scoring position. A screaming liner down the third-base line is still a double whether it's 95 mph or 105mph.

IF Hoyer were deciding between KB and Javy with an extension, Javy sure isn't helping himself

Javy with the golden sombrero tonight, and he now has 31 Ks in 60 ABs in 2021.

Please stay away from giving him an extension, Jed.

He needs to sit for a while. I mean you cannot trot a guy out there to whiff on more than half of his swings. Wish we could get some more looks at Nico, even if he hasn't unlocked some loft yet. **** off, Dan Winkler.
