2021 Atlanta Braves Regular Season Thread

These next 4 against the D’Backs are huge. Need to win a minimum 3 out of 4. We have a likely loss coming up with that make up game against SD so we need to win the “easy” games.

Not sure on that, Padres are playing very bad right now and are fighting in the dugout.

But yeah after having the Rockies rock us at home we need to win these games. Can't have that happen vs bad teams when we have really good teams coming up.

The issue with that Padres make up game is we only have 2 1/2 innings to make a come back. It’s only 1 run but 9 outs isn’t a lot to work with.

Big game last night, the offense came through, the O's also beat the Phillies so we're back at 3 games above them, I like the changes Snit made to the lineup yesterday, I've never liked Ozzie in the leadoff spot, he always does better in the middle of the order. Everyone have to give it to AA the acquisitions of Soler, Duvall and Rosario have kept the team in contention, I don't know if we have a deep playoff run in us but is nice to have competitive games in deep september. I'm starting to worry about Rodriguez, even though his ERA is still good, his 3.32 K/9 is baffling, he was not a strikeout pitcher but can a reliever with that low of a K/9 be succesfull?

AA deserves GM of the year just for flipping Pablo Sandavol for Eddie Rosario

Have we ever had a better year of trade deadline acquisitions? Every player that the Braves have gotten has made an impact in more than one game?

This team is only competitive because the division has been so bad. Hopefully next year ATL can get back on track.

Looking ahead - Losing two years of a Soroka on a minimum deal is tough. ATL needs that payroll flexibility. And Ozuna could kill this team financially if he doesn’t/can’t return. A couple tough breaks for AA.

It could be tough. Ozuna is really the issue IMO because we need to lock up Freddie and Dansby. Ozuna is not necessary and I'd rather have Duvall and Soler for DH with Acuña coming back and Pache or Waters for CF.

Rodriguez has been only a little bit better than Smith. I used to want him to close but he has kind of struggled lately. I wish we'd try out Matzek as the closer. He's infinitely better than Smith.

I don't get Snit's stubbornness with Smith. He will change the lineup all the time when things aren't working but refuses to change closers in the face of clear evidence that Smith is terrible.

Texeira was a big impact for us but in terms of cost and such this was a better trade deadline for sure

Also, I know Riley is rightfully getting a lot of praise and into the MVP conversation but it kind of seems like everyone is sleeping on Freddie Freeman now?

His numbers stack up to Riley's in every way. He has 14 fewer RBIs (80 vs 94), but has struck out much less (97 vs 149) and walked a lot more (77 vs 51). Their batting average and HRs are equal.

If you look at their numbers from the mid-season point at the beginning of July, they've both been excellent as well with Riley having better power numbers but Freddie having a .344 BA.

I get that Riley has come from out of nowhere to put up these numbers over the whole season but I think Freddie still deserves a lot of consideration as MVP too.

Most people I have seen who has more say has Freeman higher, he has about .5 WAR more than Riley as well.

I guess i was caught up more in the Atlanta media. Like David O'Brien had an article in the Athletic today and also the Braves announcers have been bringing it up a bunch.

I just don’t think you can overstate what AA did for this team at the deadline, especially on offense. Since coming to ATL:

    Soler: .272/.352/.520 (10 2Bs & 11 HR in 173 ABs)
    Duvall: .228/.295/.551 (15HR in 183 ABs)
    Pederson: .231/.309/.378 (6 2Bs & 5 HRs in 156 ABs)
    Rosario: .319/.369/.724 (6 HRs in 58 ABs)
    Rodriguez: 2.91 ERA, .969 WHIP

That is 37 HR in 570 ABs total. This team needed lineup depth and AA made that happen. That is really good work on AA’s part. It’s even more impressive when you realize how little he gave up to make the moves.

This has been such a disappointing season lol. Some awesome things like Riley surpassing all expectations, but our bullpen has just lost so many games for us I have zero faith that we can make noise in the playoffs with that unit being so mediocre at best.

Our bullpen has supplied us with 29 losses this year.
