It's arbitrary of course... baseball is just such a high variance sport. I have a tough time with hot takes 3 weeks into the season.

Yea April and May stats always a writeoff for me.

I usually just use it to see if performance YTD is consistent with expectations I have (ie I expected Vlad to do well but thought Matz would be a 4.00 ERA type guy). Anyone that is opposite of my predictions (ie Matz), I tend to zero in more in June/July.

If some of our hitters are hitting this poorly at the end of May, then I'll start to worry.

Someone said above, but I'm disappointed in Biggio as well. He was one of the guys I wasn't concerned about.

Considering itís a young team that hasnít played a legit home game yet nor have they had their offensive centrepiece in Springer, Iím not worried. Weíre hovering around .500 while already weathering significant injuries to both our lineup and BP. The latter of which just so happens to be the best in the AL.

Best BP in the AL? Is this based off of the SSS? Certainly not based on history.

Also Iíd argue that Vlad has become our offensive centrepiece (thank god).

It's based off them having the best BP ERA in the AL.

    ...one thing on this.

I remember Gerrit Cole pitching around Vlady (or at least pitching him carefully), the time will come - soon - where pitchers will not want to face this lineup.

Makes me giddy just thinking about. We will need #1 and 2 to get sorted out, and we will need at least 2 big bats behind Vlad, but that gets us to 2015 level bat production.

Thatís why I was dreaming on MVSemien.
Biggio/Bo/Vlad/springer/semien/LGJR and Teo had me hoping 5 of them would click this season. Still time, but Vlad emerging is the best thing that could happen for this offence long term.

speaking of #1, springer still not well enough to play. Given that Atkins said he could have played opening day - I'd have to search for that source - this is more than not good.

and yea get Vlady some protection.
