Opt out after the 5th. Limited NTC. 2nd largest contract given out in Canadian sports history.

Still can't believe we can't inbed tweets anymore

Well really it's 6 because the first year covers his last arb year.

I love it, but it does eat into our flexibility this offseason. Good contract overall. The first step in atkins convincing me he can handle extensions.

Not bad AAV, but I'm not thrilled about a seven year commitment to a pitcher.

I suspect he opt out after 5 years anyway unless he is injured.

Seems like a pretty team friendly deal for a 27 year old front of the rotation pitcher. Glad they focused on getting this done rather than wait until free agency.

Hes making $11m next year. Same price he would have gotten in arb.

Not hurting our payroll at all for 2022, we paid Tanner Roarke $12M last year and got nothing. I think we'll still see lots of action in the FA market and hopefully a couple high impact trades.

That's the problem: the Jays took all the risk. If he blows his elbow at some point, it really effects the overall goodness of the deal.

I like it in theory, but it may come back to bite us in practice.

Thats a concern with any deal though. At $20m per season, were getting below market price on that.

He doesnt have an injury history so I'm fine with that part. If he did I wouldnt be happy. Though yea any longer term deal will have its concerns.

Bigger concern in opportunity cost as itll affect us in signing other FAs at some point. It would be a discussion of whether he prevents us from signing another FA in the future that wpuld be a better fit (He's been been a career 3 WAR pitcher with an avg 3.6 ERA over a full season and possible we e coulda got a pticher with a higher WAR or lower ERA for same/similar prices)
