I'm honestly not going to put much stock into making the playoffs last year.

Not only was the season a 3rd of the usual amount of games a season has, but the Jays were only 5 games above .500 and had a negative run differential.

For me the last playoffs were 2016 and I don't think the current drought will be as long as the last one from 1993-2015, 21 years.....

So we were on an 87 win pace last year for a full season, normally wouldn't be good enough for a WC. But the covid factor affected everything. So should the rest of the league be disqualified by your logic and the Dodgers didn't really win the world series in 2020.

The other factor that made the Jays getting in the playoffs last year more relevant was that they didn't have a true home stadium to play in last year. Every game with the Rays, Yankees and Bosox were more like a road game than a home game.

I think they deserve a little more credit than you're giving them.

Like Soto was GREAT last year hitting Avg .351 OBP .490 SLG .695 OPS 1.185 WAR 2.1

But honestly i'm more impressed with him this year considering the sample size.

    Avg .314 OBP .457 SLG .527 OPS .983 WAR 6.2

It's just way easier to put up amazing stats in a small time frame.

Has a team with a negative run differential ever ended up winning 87 games? The team was trending downwards by the time the playoffs came. I donít think any of us were all that excited for the playoffs thinking they could go on a run. We sort of limped in.
At least thatís how I felt. I watched the WC, but it was more about seeing how the young guys played under the brighter lights.

I think the expamded playoffs last year is similar to how the NBA has the play in torunament. I dont think many took it seriously or put much merit to it unless they make something out of it. If we reached into the latter rounds then fans would respect it more. Otherwise we may as well say Steph made the playoffs this past year.

We don't play well against bad teams. It is killing us. It was same against Washington, Tigers now Twins.

I mean, that the risk you take when you sign FA entering or in their 30s.

Ryu is 34 and is maybe on the decline of his career.

We really have to hope the Yankees go on a slide because I think the hot month is probably over.

I think the Red Sox have a wild card spot on lock honestly.
