Mac Jones should be there at 15. Is he the type of quarterback that Belicheck covet?

I'm torn on it. I think, in theory at least, Mac Jones could profile to the 01-03/04 Tom Brady. The Tom Brady we see now wasn't what he was then. He continued to grow and develop as a player and reached GOAT contender status (not even sure it's contender at this point, just give him the crown), but he wasn't that guy when he started. He was decisive with the football to get it out quickly, accurate in the short passing game to set up YAC, good enough to take a shot downfield when it was there, patient enough to throw the ball away, mobile enough to move up in the pocket or run a basic rollout. Most importantly he was smart with the football.

Jones shows elements of being all those things. It's a fit in theory. But it's a different game now than it was then. If you want the "game manager" type of QB, I think you might need more mobility. Defenses are so much bigger/quicker/faster in the front 7 that I think you might need some mobility out of the QB position to be a "game manager". Being able to scramble for 3-5 years even vs a sack or throw away can add up quickly.

Dalton was winning and quite a bit cheaper.

If Wentz gets traded, then I expect the Eagles to draft a QB in the first.

Honestly it does make sense because this is a good QB class with a couple prospects who could go #1 in a year when there is no Trevor Lawrence.

So if we do get Fields and he does turn into a good QB on his rookie deal, this is worth more than hitting on a WR or LB or whatever.

When you already have Hurts as your quarterback like it makes no sense

I get that if a Qb is good enough you take him but the whole idea of Wentz being the franchise, you sign him to a mega deal and then draft a QB in the second round, bench Wentz to start Hurts and now drafting another QB in the first?

Just seems like a complete waste of assets to go through all that in less than 2 years time.

It makes zero sense once you drafted a qb in the 2nd last season.

Objective number one for an NFL GM is to find a Top 10 QB. If you get him for cheap on his rookie deal that's even better!

If you don't have one then the resources you put into finding one don't really matter. Your team is very unlikely to win a Super Bow. It's sunk cost fallacy at that point. You gotta move on.

Is Hurts a Top 10 QB? I doubt it, but he has potential and could be a good QB in 2022-23. The problem is we can't see into the future.

Is Wentz a Top 10 QB? I don't think so, but even those Wentz fans who think he still is would be deluding themselves if they thought he was interested in a legit QB competition. I think some of them were even concerned when Hurts was drafted that it would offend Wentz.

At least Hurts wouldn't be phased by having to compete against a QB drafted 6th overall. No matter who wins, there's still value in having two talented QBs on your roster. If Wentz is still worth two 2nd round picks, then a QB drafted 6th overall will have trade value after riding the bench as well.

I guess Iím also looking at whoís running the show. In a vacuum, sure, I can get on board, but considering this team is pretty weak in a few areas and the GM running the draft, Iíd rather take shots at building the foundation of the team with multiple picks than drafting a QB, again, where heíll only be cheap for 4 years.

As bad as Dallas was on defense, they were able to build a solid foundation and got a solid enough QB. They were rolling with Romo but building through the draft on the line and everything else.

At this point Iíd rather roll with Hurts and take a flyer later this draft on a QB and use the rest on the foundation. Iím pretty sure youíve also stated before something similar before drafting a QB. Iíd rather take advantage of those cheap years of a talented QB than get one when the team isnít that ready to compete yet.
